May be cvt related. Earlier models would develop a bad cvt whine and the car would go into almost a limp-mode, where it had reduced power. Make sure the fluid level is good and it doesnt appear burnt.

SOURCE: White smoke occasionally coming out of my Altima tail pipes.

If there is no loss of Coolant, which is a sign of Head gasket failure to the combustion area, which generates white smoke, I would recommend after 4000 miles of your mileage alone, a complete Service of Engine Oil and filter, AIR filter and Fuel filter.
An inexpensive way to find a recurring combustion problem, At 60k miles, the Spark plugs should still be good, but pull them anyway, just to confirm.

It is probably the tensioner pulley that's gone bad. It can be replaced separately, if you can purchase the pulley separately. As to how to go about changing it in such a small space, it's definitely possible, with the right type of tools. That's why mechanics have so many different shapes and lengths of the same size tools.

Itermittent whining noise in 2008 Ford Sport Trac

When in Park or Neutral does the noise change if you rev the engine? Whining noise generally come from a worn bearing so there will be a few things to check.
First check the serpentine belt. A loose or worn belt will cause noise. Carefully watch the belt with the engine at idle. Does it run smoothly or 'bounce' as it spins? Bouncing could suggest the spring in the belt tensioner is worn and has started to go slack.
Stand in front of the vehicle with the hood open and carefully listen to the engine. Sometimes you can hear if it is on one side of the engine or the other.
The most likely causes of the whine will be...
Power steering pump, A/C pump, Water pump, alternator pulley, belt tensioner and it's pulley or an idler pulley.
Parts like the alternator have more than one bearing in them so that could be another area to check. If the serpentine belt is off you can spin each pulley by hand. Listen and feel for a gritty growl as it spins. Bearings in good condition are usually smooth and quite.
Try this YouTube video. **NOTE** Be VERY CAREFUL if you try the tests in the video.

Clicking sound near cambelt

It might be the idler pulley or automatic tensioner. When either one dries up, the bearing wears out and starts causing whistling or whining noises, might need replacing. Try replacing the cheapest one, the idler pulley to see if it stops. If not, it might be your belt tensioner.

no it could be air condition clutch that engage/disengage the air condition compressor and disengage it through the pulley or could be the pulley bearings one of them . also check the solenoid that controls that clutch .

sounds to me like they are right on the money. its a pretty common issue on 3.5 litre engine in a altima, maxima murano and quest. you do need upper timing chains and chain tensoiners. its unfortunate that those cars have an issue, but thats what you need. nissan has been pretty reliable vehicle until the new models came out (1999 and up). The upper timing chains are known to go bad even in some 4.0 litre engines. good luck with that, that is a job that requires some car knowledge and mechanical skill to get it done.

. Additive in a can isnt going to fix a bad pump. Make sure the sound really is the pump. Take the belt off and see if the noise goes away, if so, then spin and fell every pulley. The tensioner pulley and /or idler pulley could be bad, alternator bearings? a/c pulley bearings?

1996 Chevy Lumina Sedan Whining noise from engine

The pattern you describe is consistent with an alternator going bad. Maybe the fields are already rubbing together. Test it this way: Start the car and leave on idle, when the whine is worse, then start using up electricity, by increasing the demand. Turn on AC, then lights, then full blower and then high beams. If there is a change in the whine, then either alternator or voltage regulator is the culprit. When a compressor pulley bearing is bad, noise shifts just by turning AC on and off.

Belt whines and sounds like a bearing going,WD40 takes noise away

I'd remove the belt/belts and check all the idler pulleys. Did you retighten the belts or is it a single serpentine belt with an auto tensioner?
