Transmissions on a Ford F250 with a 460

How well do the transmissions on a Ford F250 with the 460 in it hold up to heavy pulling? It has 134,000 miles on it right now and used to tow boats on a fifth-wheel hitched flatbed.

You more than likely have the E4OD tranny in the truck. These transmissions are very prone to failure and problems. They are very expensive to rebuild and or replace if only using an exchange unit already rebuilt. I have rebuilt many E4OD trannys and would not recomend that particular tranny. Average exchange rate for a rebuilt is anywhere form $ 2800.00 to $3500.00. If you are considering buying this truck look for a manual tranny version instead.

Car will roll while off and in gear

I am assuming this is an automatic transmission? It is possible your shifter cable or linkage got knocked out of adjustment but most likely the "Park "pawl has either come loose or is broken. It is a lever with a hook like shape that engages into a slotted ring at the output of the transmission.

Heavy duty trucks with Allison automatic transmissions do not have Park on the shifter because the "park pawl" couldn't handle the stress from the heavy loads twisting the driveshaft. Always set your park brake, even on level ground on all cars & trucks with automatic transmissions.

I hope it is just a shifter adjustment otherwise the transmission will have to be removed, disassembled, park pawl replaced.

The transmission seems to slip when going in reverse in my Ford Explorer 1994 (OK going forward). Transmission fluid is OK.

How many miles and is it the original transmission? The AOD transmissions are known for 3-4 and reverse to go out first. The transmission is probably heading towards an inevitable rebuild or replacement. The reverse clutch pack is probably getting to old to hold correctly.

When do you service the transmission on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 v8

Most newer transmissions recommend checking the fluid at every oil change. With heavy driving (towing, hauling, mountains, etc.) it should be serviced at 60,000 miles. Regular driving with little towing and hauling, it can easily go 100,000 miles. You can also check the wear by looking at your transmission fluid. If it is very dark and smells "burnt" you should have it serviced and have a tech check for unusual wear and damage.

I have a 2001 ford f250 powerstroke diesel was driving and transmision started to slip drove about 3 miles and now wont move forward at all but reverse works fine

Some of the Ford transmissions actually have an aluminum gear which will go out somewhere around 150 to 200 thousand miles. OR it could be really low on transmission fluid.

Will not change gear until you have done about 2 miles. 1993 ford explorer 4ltr v6 left hand drive ( eddie bouer )

How many miles? Get the transmission serviced. Get the filter changed and get new fluid put in. Ford transmissions arent that great, but try getting the transmission serviced. I got a ford taurus that was said to have a bad trans. I changed the filter and put a new filter in. Voila, a 500 dollar car turned into a 3000 dollar car. : )

Transmission fault,7800 miles

WELL ITS RECOMMENDED TO ALWAYS REMOVE FROM OVERDRIVE WHEN TOWING TO PREVENT TRANS DAMAGE. POSSIBLY HAD A PROBLEM ALREADY AND THIS WAS THE FINAL STRAW,SORRY DUDE. USUALLY THERE 4R70 TRANSMISSIONS ARE GOOD TRANSMISSIONS. POSSIBLY A BAD SOLENOID OR ISSUE IN VALVE BODY,DON'T CONDEMN INTERNALS YET UNTIL HAVE A TRANS TECH INSPECTS IT. THEY HAVE A FEW UPDATED FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS ALSO

Transmission on my 1999 ES 300.

Flush the fluid every 30-45k miles. I work for lexus and they make solid cars and transmissions but some es300 transmissions from that year range fail (a very small percent) they do only replace transmissions. After the replacement the cars are fine, its not necessarily anything the owner did.Ive seen mixed results from shops that rebuild these transmissions as they don't do them everyday, those shops see alot more gm ford and chrysler vehicles and many of their models fail before 100k.
