At oil temp light flashes 1995 Subaru legacy when starting the car, then goes out and the engine stops. When starting again and car warms up it seems to run fine. Every so often the engine sort of loses power then runs fine.
AT Oil Temp light flashing - off and on (along with check engine, cruise control and the loss of traction indicator that all go together for this issue). I have taken it to 2 different shops since my local subaru dealer has broken and overcharged me for parts. Both shops are excellent - one specialized in Subarus. Neither could find any problem iwth a code P1710 (I think). No it is happening more often. I doesn't seem to jump gears, drives normal except yesterday it would not engage in an gear., of course I stopped the car and it went off again. Please help! I just had a tune up in case they would find any related issues. I don't know what could be wrong.AT Oil Temp light flashing - off and on (along with check engine, cruise control and the loss of traction indicator that all go together for this issue). Oil leak will not change run temp but can cause a fire. The smoke is the oil burning on the engine. The 1st thing you need to do is clean the oil off the engine. Next top oil off to the full line on the dip stick. Now start the engine hold idle up to around 1600 rpm for 1 to 2 minutes keep engine run and look for the oil leak. Don't get caught in any moving parts and things will be hot so be careful. Most likely from your valve cover.
Sounds like your thermostat has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Your thermostat is located under a metal housing on the top of the engine. The upper radiator hose connects to this housing. To change the thermostat you basically need to drain the radiator after your engine is cold, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine, and remove the bolts from the small housing. replace the thermostat, and clean the surfaces on both sides and replace the gasket too. reinstall the housing, attach the hose, and refill the radiator. start the engine, warm it up and check for leaks, then re check the coolant level after the engine cools off again
Most likely your thermostat is stuck open. When you are at highway speed the air flowing over the radiator is over-cooling the coolant. Normally when it's cold outside the thermostat will close, reducing flow through the radiator. It's an easy fix, and not too expensive.
Hi, have the same problem with my 1995 legacy gt twin turbo and the problem lyes with the ecu temp switch, it sound's like the ecu thinks the engine needs more fuel to start and run
