First have the codes read, while you can still drive it. With a scanner, not a code reader. Readers don't read transmission codes. It could be something cheaper, like a solenoid replacement. Or a costlier transmission rebuild.
It is 3000 rpm's. If you look at your tachometer closely it will indicate the numbers you are reading are x1000. Check your transmission fluid. Always check when warmed up and running. It's a good idea to have your automatic transmission serviced with a new filter & fluid and the cooler flushed.
If it's got more than 80 thou on it join the thousands of others with this same truck at the tranny shop listening to their $200 price and think if you can sell it off before it goes plumb out
Check the trani fluid while running in park..
Trani fluid is messured in pints - not quarts.
Be careful not to over fill..
If the fluid is good - & still slipping - you need reani service..
sounds like trans has gone bad, last service of filter and fluid? clogged screen or low/burnt fluid would effest but if clunking sounds like trans is shot
I had the same code on my 2001 dodge 2500. The truck wouldn't shift from 3-4. I pulled the trans pan off and replaced a broken spring ($2.00). It is behind a thin plate with 3-4 small torq screws. You don't have to remove the valvebody. Only took me 45 minutes to fix.
I would like to give thanks to Jeff Russel from Teal automotive. He said this is a very common problem. He sells any part for any automatic Transmision and his prices are very affordable.

My 1999 dodge 4x4 2500 diesel transmission surges back and forth between gears at 45 mph. I had my transmission rebuilt and it keeps happening. What is going on.
