I have a 2003 Ford Escape XLT 4WD with the V6 Duratec engine. This morning I tried to start it and it wouldn't fire untill I pushed the throttle in a little. Then once it was started it wouldn't idle. As soon as I let off the gas it dies. If i feather the gas I can put it in gear and it will run fine untill I completely let off the gas, then it will die. No dummy lights come on at all. Any ideas?
Well it could be idle control valve but i would check for vacuum leaks first see if any hose fell off but could be egr valve stuck open hope this leads you some where
Testimonial: "Very thourough and helpful. Thanks!!!"
hay one more thing if you have plastic in take they are very common to have vacuum leak there take some brake clean spray it and see if Eng revs up if it dose that's where leak is at but be very careful doing this it is flammable so having some water near buy is good idea or fire extinguisher hope this helps
I WOULD TRY THAT TWO IF IT STUCK

No hoses are loose, checked all the obvious. I thought it mat be a sensor myself so I guess I will start there, thanks for pointing me in the right direction
Is the IAC valve right on top of the throttle body with three wires coming off of it?
This sounds very cavemanish lol but I finally got it to idle at a very low RPM by letting off of the throttle very very slowly. Then I took my wrench and hit the top of the IAC valve hard 2 or 3 times and the RMP's jumped back up to normal immediately! So i think therein lies my problem. I am just going to go ahead and replace the valve since its only 60 bucks well worth saving more aggravation.
So I changed the IAC Valve, problem solved!! Idles perfect. Starts every time since I replaced it. I am very glad that it was a simple fix. Thanks for all the help.
