Check your bulbs first. Then check the sockets for corrosion.

Turn on the light switch selector. I see multiple cars every day driving around with no taillights and they are completely oblivious because Thier daytime running lights appear to them as headlights.

There are a number of possibilities depending on what vehicle, the age of the vehicle, engine on or off, the status of the lights in all the different switch positions.
Do license plate lamps come on?
Do you have trailer electrics? If so do they work?

Check fuses, if fuses are good then verify the bulbs are good. Check power supply to the taillights. It could be the bulbs, a fuse, the fixture, or the headlight/tailight switch. It's pretty unusual to have damaged wiring unless a rodent got to it or there is high resistance.

Break turns on the night light and turns off the night light when turned on

If you mean the brake light knocks out the tail light, the problem could be a bad ground in the light socket.

Tail lights and dashboard lights out at same time

The problem is %90 likely to be a blown fuse. I was recently driving around at night, conscious of the fact that my dashboard (gauge) lights were out, but was unaware of my tail (driving) lights being out as well. This lead to an unpleasant run-in with the law.

i fought the law and well,
the law won.

but seriously, look in your fuse box, im not aware of exactly the suburban but i drive a '97 S-10 and they are under the steering column/dash. You gotta lay on your back to get up in there alot of the times. I know in newer chevy's they're under the hood but, should be a 20A fuse, good luck.

2007 tail light fuse location honda crv

I had this problem with my 2007 Honda CRV -- all the lights worked EXCEPT the tail/running lights and the license plate light. The other tail lights worked -- brake, reverse, indicators, and hazards. Front headlights also worked, but when the headlights went on the back tail lights did not (not to safe for driving at night!!)
The fuse was #15 in the interior fuse box (under the dash driver side) with the label "small exterior lights" ( also check fuse #19 labeled "small lights main"). The cause of my problem, I believe, is a bad or lose wire in my license plate light.

Check the ground for your rear lights. It's probably one single ground for all the rear lights, though I don't know that for sure. If it's not a grounding issue, it must be a loose power connection.
