Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

Problems shifting Well I recently bought a 1970 beetle and totally redone the engine and it really runs great but now I am having a hard time figuring out why it will not shift into all the gears. I replaced the clutch, clutch cable, pressure plate, throwout bearing and the top linkage mount and still nothing. I have heard about the shifting forks in the transmission but I am not sure. It is stuck in 1 gear and will not go into reverse, neutral, or any other gear without dying. I am in need of some assistance.

Check engine light on or flashing ? Engine misfire an you fried the catalytic converter but that is just a guess without testing . Can't help you don't have a lot of money . Your best option , take it to a qualified repair shop an have it tested properly .Don't guess ,test .

1999 VW starts then dies

the idler is blocked in the intake, or the idle controller has failed, if you take the air pipe off the intake there is a butterfly and on the side you will see a hole, on the side you will see a device, now some time you can just spray some carb cleaner in there and give it a good flush out. also spray the butterfly and clean this up. open with the cable and do the same. you may fined that the air filter needs replacing so would do this at the same time. leave for 10 min and then start engine don't worry about it coffing etc its just the cleaner being burnt off in the engine give it a few good revs. then let it idle for 5 min, when you have done that then fit the pipes back on. run engine it should be fine now, if not repeat.

1999 vw beetle timing belt broke. i started it immediatly after this happened. did i bend a valve? and is it worth repairing

All engines for 1999 Beetle are interference engines, so yes you probably bent a valve. Not knowing much about your car, model, equipment, condition and mileage I can't really tell you if it's worth repairing. It just depends on how much damage was done. I would get a couple of estimates from reputable repair shops and compare that to the value of the car. If the car is in otherwise great shape and the repair bill isn't too high I would consider fixing it. Use the link below to figure out the value of the car.

I have a 1970 Beetle. Starting problem?

Hi there, it might be your choke. This was happening to mine, it kept sticking and flooded the engine if I stopped before the engine had properly warmed up. Had it replaced, problems gone.

Hope this helps.

What do you mean "check the radiator"? Does the radiator not work or only work every other day? You could have a clog in the cooling system and it might be smart to get it flushed out.
