1999 ford expedition power steering doesnt work replaced power steering pump is there some kind of sensor that needs to be replaced or some kinda electrical component that needs replacing

  • stephen peirce Nov 05, 2019

Ok follow Roberts lead here you could have twisted a line or the tubing is collapsed also if this is so you should have fluid backing up and coming out of the reservoir if not there is a pressure sensor that could have failed also did you have the trucks wheels off the ground when filling it with fluid if not it should be so you can bleed the air from it by turning the wheels back n forth without hitting the stops to get the air out of the fluid also are you sure you put the lines back in there correct fittings? Take off each line and blow through it or use air to make sure it is not clogged this includes the cooler if it applies if all else you tried doesn't work the steering gear maybe clogged or has failed

Did you bleed the system of air with the wheels off the ground if not jack it up and turn the wheel from side to side DO NOT HIT THE ALL THE WAY STOPS JUST BACK N FORTH AND ADD FLUID TILL, THE FOAMING GOES AWAY

One of the pressure lines may be collapsed or blocked not allowing flow for power assist .

Yes first follow Roberts suggestion and check all the lines first for clogs blow air through them or for being collapsed or being bent or installed backwards and was this condition present and that's why you changed the pump ? Yes/no there's a pressure sensor on the line it could be shorted from fluid getting into the plug but I think that your steering box has become clogged and fluid can't travel through it or the seals have swelled out from putting brake fluid in and not power steering fluid yes they are both hydraulic fluid but the have different additives for the seals inside the steering box ,but it just could've failed because it's 21 years old now by door /post sticker build date and they don't last forever 21 years is a real good run for the $$$ also there is a power assist module that might have failed

You might find one at a Junk Yard or be able to order it from the dealer, that is where I would look for it in that order. As far as how easy it is to replace that will depend on how everything is connected and if the job requires special tools.

SOURCE: 1999 FORD EXPEDITION 2WD 4.6L EGR VALVE,EGR

Remove the throttle body housing on the top of the intake, it is a 90 degree tunnel like small piece held by 4 small bolts, turn it over and look for two holes, these holes are for the EGR valve flow, they are probably plugged up with carboned crud, clean them out with the tip of a screwdriver if neccessary to remove all the crud, once its clean reinstall it and reset your check engine light, hope this helps, let me know

I have a 1999 for expedition. It stalls when turning into my driveway or making a slow turn on the road. I had transmission done last year and have just changed the steering pump also. There are no...

Check the Power steering line from the bottom of the pump where it is held in place by a plastic clip against the frame. Because of the plastic clip, moisture and salt can corrode the metal tubing and cause an air bubble that affects the draw of the fluid back to the pump at low speeds or heavy demand. I changed mine on a 1999 F-150 which is similar to your vehicle.
For stalling, its possible that the transmission is hanging in Overdrive and not downshifting to a gear matching the load. This would cause a condition similar to "lugging" in a stick-shift, which more people have experienced as beginner Drivers.
Some vehicles also have a "load sensor" in the rack and pinion steering or steering lines or steering pump, which electrically increases engine RPM to compensate for the drag of moving steering components. Been awhile since I fooled with these.
A thorough check of the steering assembly or a pressure check of the steering pump on the vehicle as it works, could reveal if too much effort is needed to move the steering components and that is why the engine is stalling.

How do i replace the evo on my 2001 ford expedition?

I think you are a little confused. "EVO" stands for Electronic Variable Orifice. This has to do with your variable assist power steering - not your air suspension. What it sounds like you are describing by "doohicey" is a suspension height sensor. If the sensor is broken or damaged, it will cause the air suspension to drop down. Just replace the sensor and it will probably work again. Suspension height sensor failures are pretty common.

I need to know what fuse that powers the fuel pump in my 1999 ford expedition it has a 5.4 va 4 wheel drive

OK, there are fuses on the driver's side down below.

But, if you are having a fuel pump problem, it's likely that the fuse is alright and you need to replace the fuel pump. Same thing happened to our 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition. It quit working. And the inertia fuel cutoff switch didn't help, either (flipping or pushing it).

So, if you have no fuel coming, it may very well be the fuel pump.

We changed ours around 112000mi.

If this doesnt work it could be a power steering pump failure

How do you know if your power stearing pump is going bad on a 1998 ford expedition

When the power steering pump is going bad, you will be hearing a humming sound when you turn the steering while on idling and while driving at high speed.

At situations like this no repair can be done. Replacement is the recommended solution when you got a bad power steering pump.

Good luck and rate this.
