My Ford ranger that was my sister's first she never had problems.but since I've had it it has issues recently won't start .when I found that the output wire from the altenator looks like the back was gouged, or cut.So that the metal shows .what could do that only a hose that touches it.And can I just seal it back u up?

Ok Lisa if you have spark from the coil/s next spray gas or fuel injection cleaner into the throttle body if it runs and dies we know that there's a fuel delivery problem possibly before we go any further make sure the spark plug gaps are ok if not regap or replace them after this if the no start condition is still present try again with the spray if the same thing happens now it's 100% sure that there's a fuel problem when you get to this point of checking post back write everything down that you did and we'll take it further to get you running this could be an idle air control valve, fuel pump relay, driver module ,fuel pump or a clogged filter so post back and one of us will pick it up ok thanks stephen

If the copper wires weren't cut or damaged, you can seal the insulation with nail polish and then wrap with electrician's tape

Ok the wire could have been rubbing against the hose clamp from engine vibrations and Rick got you covered here for the wire repair now to the no start condition because the output wire was making ground contact it's possible that you have a few blown fuses in the power distribution box and possible fuse link damage ///First Lisa you must do the wire repair and either Ricks method or solder it back together then heat shrink it and the tape a small piece or rubber hose around it for protection and if it was rubbing it will show up on the hose before a problem comes ///next check all fuses in the power distribution box and the cable end and lug and clean there contact points replace all blown fuses obviously ok //next try to start it if you found bad fuses next we need to check for spark at the plug wires ground to the engine or held just over the spark plug top if there's spark it will jump to the plug and you will see it //if not now look at the coil/s for voltage coming in and out if none your crank sensor /ignition module (( no year given )) could have blown from the grounding voltage from the alternator wire this will most likely damage the ignition module they ard problematic without this happening ok ///next post comming

Everything on a vehicle moves through temperature change or vibration and things that touch are apt to chafe and be damaged and it is amazing how often a soft material can wear away a harder material. This is a large part of the value of regular inspections.

If the wire conductor is undamaged, half a dozen layers of electrical insulation tape carefully and neatly applied will provide sufficient insulation though the adhesive it is not resistant to heat and will unwind over time so securing it with a small nylon cable tie will prevent that.

Take your time, if its been awhile do a complete tune-up. and preliminary check a misfire can come from a defective cap and rotor, fuel and air filter. a leak in the fuel system or defective regulator.

I have a 96 ranger 4 cylinder manual transmission recently my sisters boyfriend borrowed it and it jus stalled out and we replaced the starter charged the battery and even Tried push starting it won't...

try to bypass the starter motor see the diagram attached. and fix it.
However if the problem persist the problem is ignition timing out of manufacturer specification. run the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it. see the diagramebb1f0de-12b3-45f6-a1b6-1ef27eada59a.jpgd96f98d2-e7d7-4b47-a81b-0cad4a837ede.jpg10e21b1f-3ee4-4586-8c0e-706457131ec2.gif

The evaporative system failed on emissions for my 87 Ford Ranger 2.9l engine, any suggestions what might be wrong

It can't be filled up because it leaks, or won't take anymore gas? Check the hose from the fuel filler to the tank for kinks or restrictions, if you have leaks, fill it up and trace the leak. Either problem will cause EVAP codes, hard starts, and cause vehicle to die.
