Hello Carol, The 7 way is for use with a brake controller and/or a trailer that has electric brakes. The 4 way flat is a basic trailer plug connector. Connect as follows: Green wire- Connects to the vehicles right turn wire harness & provides brake light and right turn signal on trailer.
Yellow wire- Connects to vehicles left turn wire & powers brake light & Left turn signal on trailer
White wire- Ground
Brown Wire- Tail/ marker/ license plate lights
The Blue, Red & Purple wires on the 7 way will not be used on the adapter, those are for brakes.
If it is a factory trailer package then there are fuses for the left turn signal and the right turn signal for the trailer connector. Check your owners manual for the location of these two fuses.
Well let me shed some light on this issue. I have the same problem. Trailer connection from truck does not have power to left turn signal and left brake light. I just got back from the dealership and $100.00 labor charge. My problem is the TIPM (Fuse Box for short) and FCM (little silver module hooked to the Fuse Box on the left hand side of the fuse box). $910.00 for the parts and Chrysler doesn't have any in stock. 4-6 weeks to maybe fill a back order. I am currently researching an alternative way to fix this issue. I will let you know.
Try hooking up your trailer to another vehicle and see if it does the same thing. If it does than it`s the trailer. If it doesn`t then check the connections and the grounds on the truck wiring.Make sure they are not corroded or rusty.
Hello,
I ran into this before. I found a code in the Body Control Module disabling the circuit in the trailer harness. I hope this helps. If you have more questions reguarding this or other conserns please ask me. Please remember high ratings are very important to me.
Thank You,
Roy
Check the owners manual to be sure of the location of the trailer fuses. Most have several locations for the fuses. Other than that, look for a loose or corroded connection. Also check http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx.
I have seen once before that the fuse box was bad on a 2003 Dodge 3500. I had power in and nothing out. We had to replace the box. Not cheap! Hope it is simple like a loose connection though. I think I had to pull the inner fender on the drivers side to access the bottom of the fuse box. Pain in the ****, but...
I'd get a 12vdc test light if you don't have one already & start from plug, and keep probing back from there. It may be as simple as a bad connection under truck where joined into harness.
