SOURCE: locating heater blower motor resistor

the resistor is behind your glove box. open the box and push in the sides to release it and let it hang down...the resistor is right there. I didn't try to replace it, a friend did it, but the part was under $20.

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Surban blower motor resistor

mine did the same thing. It was the gears breaking off in the resistor. However, the wiring harness and resistor melted inside of the dashboard AND DID NOT trigger the fuse... causing a safety issue. This was this past month. I notified GM and the National Highway Traffic Saftely Administration hotline located in the owners manual. They are not tracking this problem to see about safety recall. If you have this issue, you need to ntify them as well at their toll free number

SOURCE: i have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and the heater fan

If you bypass the resistor pack and connect the motor directly to the fused 12v supply then the fan should run at maximum speed. If so, it's the resistor pack that's blown: a very common fault on a huge number of makes and models.

SOURCE: Heater blower resistor gets very hot

its got a bank of resistors and it will get hot. The fuse blowing out may just be a fluke thing. Replace the fuse (with the proper size)and run it normally, The fuse is in the system and is designed to burn out long before any real damage can occur,

Testimonial: "Thanks stevemcgraw1. I am at ease now. Going to re-check the value of the fuse with the manual and check the draw from the blower. Cheers!"

2001 mercury grand marquis ac/heater blower doesnt work

You have to check all associated fuses and relays then check power at the blower motor resistor located under the hood on the passengers side on the heater a/c plenum against the firewall under the rear coolant hose going into the back of intake. ..do the tap test and see if blower cones on

Heater fan not working

The three most common problems for heater fans are
  1. Burned-out blower motor resistor. This is usually located on the engine side of the firewall. Sometimes one section of the resistor is burned out but others are still good, so the blower only works on the highest speed settings. If you have a burned-out resistor, check the blower bearings to make sure they are not stiff and causing the motor to draw too much current.
  2. The blower is actually working, but either the intake vent is plugged (I've seen vehicles with the heater core completely blocked by dirt, leaves and insects that came in through the vent), or the heater door is stuck closed.
  3. The motor bearings have gone bad (see # 1). This can cause the fuse to blow, although the resistor usually fries first.
I'm not sure how your car's cabin environmental control system is fused. Check any fuse that might apply, such as Vent/AC, HTR, FAN, etc. Generally you can identify the state of a blade-type fuse by inspection without removing it. If you have a blown fuse, check the blower motor before wasting money on a new fuse that will probably blow. Like any fan, it's supposed to turn easily, and there should not be any roughness or side-slop in the bearings.

My heater motor only works on high

A bad blower moter resistor can cause the blower to default to high speed only. The resistor is
located behind the lower right side of the dash on the heater box just left of the blower moter.
The fan switch can also cause this problem, but more often then not it's a bad resistor.
Hope this helps.

My heater and AC blower not working. Please help

In the fuse block, under the hood on top of the fender. Locate fuse #35 it's 40amp fuse for the blower moter. If the fuse is ok,there is another
common problem you can check. The blower moter resistor assembly,
located under the dash on right side. With a 12v test light check for
power to the blower moter from the resistor. If you have no power to the
moter, replace the resistor assembly. If niether of these works, I'll need
to know if you have climate control or manual control hvac. And for some reason, the wheel base. long wb or short wb. to dig any deeper.
But I hope one of the causes I've mentioned will cure the problem.
Good luck.
