It is important to make sure the new starter is the right one and installed correctly. Did you check the teeth on the ring gear before installing the starter? Damaged teeth on the flexplate will cause grinding. Did you put the old starter next to the new starter and compare them? The bendix gear must have the same tooth count, slash cut for its specific gear rotation and the same throw. If the head for the bendix gear isn't the correct part number for your specific starter, The starter will not engage completely. It is also possible that your new start is defective. Once in awhile starters are rebuilt or assembled incorrectly. I don't know if you still have the old starter but you will need to pull the new one out and look it over, bench test it and maybe exchange it. Please let me know how your repair goes.

Could be the flywheel has been damaged. Also the starter might need to be shimmed. Take the new starter out and look at the teeth on the gears in the starter and the flywheel housing. See where the damage is and you can tell if you need to shim or replace the flywheel.

SOURCE: I need radio code for honda odyssey 2004

The dealer where you bought the vehicle should be able to help you with this code. Sometimes a sticker is affixed inside the glovebox too.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: honda 2000 odyssey the shifter is in park, but

The gear range switch on the back of the transmission is either bad or out of adjustment. To adjust, try removing the switch and put it in the neutral position (it should click into this spot). Then put the transmission in neutral and reinstall the switch being careful not to let the switch turn at all during re-install. There is a few degrees of adjustment available by turning the switch in either direction as well if it is still off. The car should only start in park or neutral and the reverse lights should only come on when in reverse.

SOURCE: when turning the key to start a honda odyssey the

My wife's 2006 Odyssey had the same problem today.
I started with a new battery as that was easy to replace and was what I assumed was the problem...wrong. $90, but it was due for a new one anyway.
I would start with the starter relay/solenoid...less than $5.
I'm pulling the battery tomorrow to check all of the wire connections since I will not be able to get the relay until Tuesday.
If need be, I will remove the starter and take it somewhere to be tested so I don't have to drive the van and get stuck somewhere far from home.

How can I start my 2003 Honda odyssey van with a bad starter

Unless it is a manual transmission you can't start it unless you have a working starter motor, it is about a 1 hour job to replace the starter, a rebuilt starter is around $100.00 US at link 2003 HONDA ODYSSEY 3 5L V6 Starter Motor RockAuto

2004 Honda Odyssey when you turn the key to start it nothing happens. We have tryed everything the small book subjests to do. The headlights are bright, the battery is up.

Sounds like the starter motor may have gone bad. You might want to have the starter tested. It has to be taken off and then to a parts store for testing. If the starter tests good, it may be a problem in the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid (mounted on the starter motor). In that case, you will need some testing equipment to further test, equipment like a voltmeter used to check for power at the solenoid when key is held in start.

Why does starter grinds and is slow to start

Weak battery, poor or bad contact to the battery or a worn out starter are all possibilities. To start troubleshooting clean your terminal connections to the battery first. After that you can try putting a charger on the battery for a while and see if that helps. If it does you probably need a new battery.
