SOURCE: power steering fluid on grand prix

You should add it to the power steering pump reservoir, which if you have the 3800 series II its behind the engine on the passenger side.

Add steering fluid in the pump reservoir. It is located in the left side of the engine. see picture..

SOURCE: 1998 Grand Prix GTP windshield washer (full) not pumping fluid

Not difficult to remove inner fender liner (screws around wheel well opening and sometimes a few more)
Pump is available from most auto supply stores and easily installed in tank. Check power at the motor before removing it to make sure the motor is bad and the problem isn't somewhere else.(if no power there problem can be solved as easily as using a push button to get it powered up and as complicated as replacing the multi-function switch...pretty much your choice)

Pontiac grand prix gt 2004 powewr steering not working

The only things that it can be is either the belt for the pump is broke or the pump has gone bad. if the belt is on and turning the pump, then the pump is either bad or out of fluid in which case you have had a leak for some time if it is empty. check the reservoir on top of the pump, unscrew the cap and check the fluid first before replaceing the pump, it may just be empty, but then you need to find the leak

Pontiac grand prix gt 2004 loss of power steering, what could be the cause

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Check to make sure your power steering fluid is not low. Make sure it is not leaking also. If that is not the case, you probably have a bad power steering pump.

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP has a power steering leak but seems to work well. my mechanic wants to replace the whole rack and pinion, but that seems extensive for a leak. any suggestions?

Anytime a power steering compononent is leaking it requires replacement. whether or not you choose to replace it is up to you. if you lose all power steering fluid you will lose your power assist however mechanical steering ability is still maintained.

2004 Grand Prix

This is definitely a power steering problem. I had this same problem about a year ago. I had to get my Power Steering Rack replaced, this fixed the noise and problem. You can add power steering fluid as a temporary fix, but your problem will not permanently go away. You are probably leaking fluid out of your steering rack.

The sound that you are hearing probably happens more often when you are acclerating around a turn, right?? Does it sound like a little foreign car in reverse?? Also, the wheel may be a little stiff when first starting out.
