SOURCE: serpentine belt tensioner will not tighten

If the tensioner will not keep the belt tight then the tensioner is bad and will need to be replaced. The spring on the inside will loose it's tension over time.

SOURCE: how do I release the belt tension pully to replace serpentine belt

You can run down to your local auto parts store and buy a serp belt tool. Or you can take a 3/8 drive ratchet, locate the 3/8 square hole in your tensioner and put the ratchet in the hole. For more leverage I put a deep socket over the ratchet handle and put a long 3/8 extention in the deep socket. This will provide ample leverage and will save buying more tools you do not need. Simply move the tensioner to the direction that takes pressure off of the belt.

SOURCE: The tensioner pulley on my 1997 Cherolet Cavalier

You will have to replace your serpentine belt tensioner. Call local auto parts store and ask them if you can get just the pully or if you have to by the whole tensioner. Call around and don't be surprised if you can't get what you need from your local auto parts store because some do not carry after market belt tensionrs. In this case you will need to order it from a GM dealership's parts department.

1992 2.2 serpentene belt tensioner replacement

The tensioner should have a bolt in the middle of it. But also there should be a bolt in the mibble of the pully. If you are replacing the tensioner assy. 1st remove the belt 2nd remove the bolt. the tensioner assy. will have a specific way of going on If you tighten the new one down ad it will not move it is on wrong and try again. If just replacing the pully just remove the belt take the bolt out of the old pully and install new one. Do to space constraints this can be a knuckle buster be careful. If any more questions please ask. Have a great day. PS. I recomend to everyone who does work on there vehicles to buy a chilton or haynes manual from their local auto parts store. It has detailed instructions and pictures to help. These are usualy about $20
