When i let go of the accelerator the idle stays real high

You should check throttle body,first try to clean,could be TPS sensor[which control RPM],next is IAC control RPM.

Why would the gas rev up on its own on 2000 Isuzu rodeo

Is this the only time it did this? Has it done it since then? As much as people hate to admit it, the most common cause of unintended acceleration is driver error. You might simply have had your foot on the accelerator and brake at the same time. If it has done it before, or since, then you need to have the computer scanned for possible service codes. If there are none, you made to need have somebody look the engine over for an intermittent vacuum leak, or possible sticking accelerator.

2003 isuzu rodeo idling very rough and stalling intermittently. seems to improve with full gas tank and worsen when nearing empty. recent replaced fuel pump and fuel filter, problem persists

sounds like you have water in the fuel, put in a some dry gas and let it sit over night then drive it the next day to see if it improves

High idle problem

HIGH IDLE COULD BE ACCELERATOR CABLE BINDING PULLING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL OR YOU HAVE VACUUM LEAK AT THROTTLE BODY GASKET.WHERE GASKET COULD CRACK SPLIT APART THROTTLE MOUNTING BOLTS LOOSE OR YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE.IN WHICH IT WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO FLASH.

Do you have a check engine light? Which engine? My 1996 Trooper with a 3.2 D.O.H.C. is awful for plugging up the E.G.R. I have cleaned it several times! Good Luck!

Try replacing the EGR valve!
Also make so you accelerator cable isn't kinked, if it is replace it!

vacuum leak......bad tps.......bad mass airflow meter system........any of those are suspect...... also check for bad ground at battery to be sure all is not computer freak out from bad readings ...good luck

I had the same problem. It was idling at around 2300 rpm. It was an easy fix. All I had to do was detach the air intake hose, and using crc throttle body cleaner I cleaned out the butterfly flap (make sure the engine is off and manually open the flap by twisting the cable.connection) and then after that there is a small black piece sticking off the side (ecm) requiring an Alan key, remove that and clean the Hell out of the spring. A good wire brush should do it. Took all the rust off and now it idles around 800 rpm. Which I believe is the normal range.
