This is a good engine, I have one myself, marvellous donk when you fix the oil leaks !!. The crank position sensor is on the distributor shaft and is fixed, so the only timing you have to worry about is the timing belt fit-up. Once those marks are lined up the actual ignition timing is done by the ECU. Details are here

The same 2.4 L four-cylinder (22RE) and 3.0 L V6 (3VZ) engines were available in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive layouts. The Hilux Surf version for the Japanese market was also available with a range of diesel engines, including a 2.4 L turbodiesel2L-TE I4 up to 1993, followed by a 3.0 L turbodiesel 1KZ-TE I4. A small number were also made with a normally aspirated 2.8 L diesel 3L I4. A small number were also produced with a 2.0 L 3Y I4 naturally aspirated gasoline engine.

Here you are in "Office Supplies". But I recognize the V6 engine in a Toyota!
See here p45 and 51. The upper marks are the same in the 1MZ and 3VZ engines, and the dot mark on the 3VZ crankshaft sprocket is towards the bottom side, which is unclear in this diagram. Check there is the same number of teeth on the new and old belt.
