BAD BEARINGS ON AC CLUTCH ON A 2000 DODGE DURANGO

Can the bearings be replaced on the AC pulley on a 2000 Dodge Durango? I have priced them at Auto Zone for about $70.00. They have the special tools necessary to work on the clutch. The entire compressor is about $360.00 not including the time and money to have it replaced.

The AC is still working. When I take off the belt, the pulley won't turn by hand. With the belt on the pulley smokes. It isn't as bad when the power is disconnected from the AC compressor as the clutch does not engage.

Buy a whole new clutch for about $200. You need a special puller to remove the old one if you intend to refurbish it. It's not worth the effort. Just remove the clips and knock the old one off with a hammer. Chuck it away and replace with a brand new clutch assembly.

Replacement AC clutch assemblies are not available for most Dodge Durango's. usually you will need to replace the entire compressor or just the bearing. With the proper tools the bearing would be the easiest route.

2000 Dodge Durango

The compressor is going out. The only time the compressor actually runs is when the clutch is engaged, the rest of the time the pulley acts as an idler pulley and just free wheels. I would suggest replacing the compressor and the accumulator.

I need to replace my a/c compressor on my 1999 Dodge Intrepid, the bearings are bad how can I fix it so I can still drive it without replacing a/c compressor?

Get a smaller serpentine belt that would fit the rest of the drive pulleys and not attach to the pulley on the clutch pulley of the AC compressor.Inquire at an auto parts store or Dodge dealer to find out what size of belt could be used on an Intrepid without AC,

I was driving my 2000 dodge durango v-8 318 it had a squeaking noise in the area around the serp. belt. that blt was only 3 months old. as i was driving i lost power steering and the car started to...

it could have been a fluke bad belt but the pulleys should be checked for alignment and looseness.bearings go bad and can sometimes cause a wobbly pulley that can throw a belt.the belt tensioner may need replacing as these can create problems if the belt is not held tight enough.

2002 dodge durango compressor pulley bearing making awful noise. Can I replace the bearing or do I have to replace the entire compressor

its not a bearing,it is the friction clutch assembly, you'll have to have a shop do that repair or buy another compressor,Autozone and NAPA are less expensive

It's definitley not supposed to be loose or wobbly. Take a look at it and see exactly where it's loose, you may be able to tighten it using the bolts on the pulley. Otherwise if the pulley itself is bad you'll have to replace it.

2000 dodge durango with 5.9L. AC compessor clutch smoked, but still turning and AC still cold. Is the clutch assembly available seperate from the compressor and how difficult is this to change by average...

Yes the assembly is available but you will need a clutch pulling and a clutch installing special tools. They might be rentable, if not I dont think they cost alot. Its not a bad job.
You might want to read up on the job.Dont forget the gap spec.

How do i get at, and change the rear wheel bearing in my 1999 dodge durango

Wheel bearing should be permant packed. However if you wish to tackle the job. Remove the wheel, remove the cap, remove the carter pin, remove the bearings. Clean, repack new bearings and reasemble. But, before you do check with any auto repair shop or Dodge dealer, bearings may be permantly sealed.
