Bought a mitsubishi colt 1.3 glx 1998 yesterday from ebay. The car was warm and it started fine. Basically when i set off and put my foot down hard you get a missfire and the car tends to die off and not pick up speed. When you set off slow its fine.. is this an airflow meter problem or the throttle body???
Now the cars home and cold it wont start. I am getting a spark..
any idea??? cheers
Try replacing the spark plug cables and set up
Without seeing the the offending little so and so its difficult to put a finger on it ,firstly try starting it with some either spray ,then when its running take it to your local garage and let a mechanic have a look, the symptoms you describe could be caused by a variety of different faults accumulating into one ,from the auto choke not working to a dodgy fuel pump or a loom problem ...
exactly what i said a variety of faults, and without the car in front of me its difficult to give an answer that will not cost you a fortune or have you barking up the wrong tree, had the same thing with a 91 seat ibiza two days ago, seemed like fuel but it turned out to be the distributor cap ,the carbon brush had worn completely away in the middle of the cap.took me all of 5mins to diagnose and an hour to go and get an obsolete part.Ended up in the bosch agency, wasnt expensive but the only consolation is the check out woman ....WOW

I had the exact same problem with a 98 colt, I changed the s/plugs, leads, & air filter to no avail. I established that all the sensors were okay so my last resort before leaving it into a garage was the fuel filter.
After replacing filter the car started up 1st time & it's now running like a dream. Its a cheap fix so that's were I would start.
Regards Stephen.
Did you change the complete distributor housing or just the cap & rotor?
Thanks for your prompt reply & help, as in my earlier thread I was having similar problems to yours. I had done all the simple checks 1st & my colt was running well. However the first cold morning it was very difficult to start the car & it would only run a bit better after 20 minutes of driving.
I dropped it into a mechanic who had diagnostics & he replaced the tps sensor which was a waste of money as the car was still the same. I've taken it back so I'll try the distributor.
Many thanks, Stephen.
I replaced the distributor & what do you know??? My colt is going perfect. 90 euro for a distributor, robbing gits in Dublin.
You're a little gem & only for you I would've burnt the car.
If more people like you posted their solutions to the car problems they had solved after looking for help on these forums then it would eliminate unnecessary costly repairs by chancers who claim to be mechanics.
Once again thanks for your help & I owe you a virtual pint of Guinness, kindest regards Stephen.

IV FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. serviced car and that improved the problem a little.
2. changed leads and that improved it a bit more.
3. changed fuel filter and its improving.
4. last of all changed the old distributor for a new one and now the problems solved...
Mitsubishi Colts have a common problem according to japanese breakers with the distributor going faulty.
