P1345 Code on a '97 Chevy 5.7 in a Silverado

Have the code, and I understand that the code is regarding the Cam relationship (or timing) to the Crankshaft. The truck's computer reads this via the Cam Position Sensor and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (I'm assuming). If one of those two sensors is bad will I get a different code? I just got the truck, and the dude who had it before obviously did some work to it - K&N cold air setup and MSD ignition - so I'm wondering if he messed around with the distributor (which houses the Cam Position Sensor).

I was thinking of getting a new Cam Sensor at the parts store ($30) since it seems pretty easy to replace.

Yesterday I started screwing around with stuff just for kicks, unplugged and replugged the Cam Sensor, messed around with the ignition, plugging and unplugging, and then trying to figure out how it was all wired. The distributor is tight, but the cap has a bit of play in it and I was twisting it back and forth. Later, when it was time to put the truck away for the night it would not start. I could hear the fuel pump go and it would turn over, but not even try to start. I kept messing around with all the stuff I touched before, and even started to put a meter on things, then after about 1/2 hour of this, she just started up no problem. I'm not sure what I did, if anything, but I was wondering if the play in the Distributor cap could knock the Cam Sensor out of range, and if so, if the Cam Sensor will stop the truck from starting? Any ideas?

Thanks

That code usually means the distributor was moved and the cam and crank signal sync is off,you mwill need a scanner capable of data display to reset it,it should be near or at 0 degrees,if you do not have access to a scanner your local shop should be more than capable of reseting it.hope this helped

SOURCE: 383 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY

383 is a modified engine...since it's not stock, you need to learn to "read" spark plugs. In reality the # used in any engine is a starting point for experimentation. Begin with factory plug, If too white or too black change heat range 'till you find a # that gives mostly white porcelan with light tan tinge. That will be a good plug to run.

Try adjusting the sensor. if this doesn't work, replace it asap.

SOURCE: wiring an hei distributor

You shouldn't need a spark box because thee coil is located in the dist. cap. You need to run a 12v switched power source to the side of the dist. cap that is marked dist. if it isn't maked it is the term. that is on the front right of the conector pad. the one on the left is for hooking up a tach.

1999 chevy silverado with p1345,p0171,andp0174

Did you verify the sensors were faulty before you replaced them ? Code 1345 means the signal from each sensor is not in sync with the other. That means one sensor signal is out of sync, or there is a problem with the timing chain.
Codes 171 and 174 deal with the issue of the fuel system being too lean on both banks or heads. You could have compression or fuel problems that would cause those codes.
A mechanic would use a scanner to monitor data from the sensors and try to figure out whats going on.

I put a rebuilt long block in my C2500 5.7 L I'm getting a P1345 code and she's running a little rough. I replaced the cam shaft sensor in the distributer but still getting code

The code is set if the relationship between the crank and cam sensors is not within tolerance. In your case the most likely problem is (and especially since she is running rough) that the distributor was reinstalled one tooth off in either direction from where it should be.

What is code p1345

error code p1345 ( gm and chevy) = camshaft and crankshaft position error code. a tooth or timing chain has excessive wears.
BMW error code P1345 = cylinder 2 misfires, fuel cut off.

I have a 1998 chevy silverado check engine code 1345a what does this mean

Do you mean Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1345 ?This DTC is a "Manufacturer Specific" code that is defined by GM as "Camshaft/Crankshaft Correlation Error".

It is basically telling you that your Cam/Crank timing is not within specifications.

Possible causes are:

> Improperly installed distributor assembly
> Badly worn distributor shaft or bushings
> Worn timing components (chain, gears, etc.)

Proper diagnosis is required to diagnose the actual condition that is causing this code. If any timing components are replaced, a scan tool capable of reading live computer data is required to check the cam/crank offset PID and make adjustments as necessary.

The specification for Cam/Crank offset is (Zero) 0 +/- 2 and must be checked with the engine running at 1500 RPM.

P0014 and p1345 codes

Hello billscranese,

The P0014 is a cam phasing code. The phasing system is a hydraulic actuated phase shifting system and is vulnerable to dirty oil. If its been sometime since your last oil change I would recommend that you start with that. The control module turns off the MIL after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.

The P1345 could be caused by the P0014. The powertrain control module monitors the correlation between the crank and cam positions and if the deviation between the two exceeds a predetermined amount it will set the code.

Good luck.
