2000 maxima has erratic idle on cold days and will stall out on extremely cold days. Also, have noted antifreeze leak (on ground) on those really cold days. Car runs fine once it reaches normal operating temperature.

It sounds like an engine temp sensor is open.. When your engine is cold or anti-freeze is cold your ECU or ECM gets a signal from the temp sensor for cold engine start. It would make sense that it works fine when hot because the resistance on the sensor is a lot lower. Take an ohm meter if you have one and check the resistance across the temp sensor pins. When the engine is cold the resisitance should be really high. Start and warm up your car to normal temp and check it again. It should be a lot lower now. If not replace it. Hope this helps.

Exceedingly high idle at engine start up

There might be a vacuum leak, check leaks on the inlet manifold and other areas after the MAS.

I had heat blowing out now cold is blowing out of my 2000 maxima when the car is warm i turn on the heater cold air blows out

check you antifreeze level, if its low you may not get any heat. other then that it can be vapor locked (not great if it hasn't been emptied and refilled recently , could be a bad head gasket) or it can be the control in the dash...if so you may hear what sounds like an air leak(losing vacuum) or the air doors may be stuck towards the cold.......I hope your antifreeze is low, the other things are a pain to fix usually

1990 Nisan Maxima threw all 3 serp. belts-crankshaft pulley went bad. Replaced all of these and then it started to rough idle (head gasket leak?) installed stop leak (ceramic) and it starts well one time...

there is a good possibility that your engine may have ingested some of that antifreeze and if it did thats one of the reasons why your engine idle is rough the reason why its hard to start is becaus the anti freeze is being compressed by the pistons when you start the engine check the tailpipe for white smoke or an antifreeze smell As far as the stop leak its sometimes a temporary fix for a bigger problem .Check your antifreeze level (when it cools down).for a low fluid level

Heater blowing cold air

If there is a internal antifreeze leak, there will be antifreeze mixed in your oil. Check your oil. If there is antifreeze in there, you probably have a bad head or base gasket. Worst case scenario is your block is cracked somewhere. Check your heater core and the lines as well. If the heater core is bad it will be leaking.
Check the thermostat housing for a leak. Sometimes
the antifreeze will leak from there, and burn on top of the exhaust instead of dripping onto the ground. Good luck

Heater Problums with the smell of burning Antifreeze.EXTRA Detail

Hi!

I really feel you could be losing a small amount of coolant from the heater matrix/core.

It appears we have an Air lock scenario due to this and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.
Also with your temp gauge reading 1/2 this is normal, possibly the core is blocked or as already suggested leaking, a Radiator sealing additive might help BUT it may be the cause of your cold/warm air?
TOO MUCH SEALER blocking the Matrix/Core?
I hope all this helps!
