Need to replace burnt out dash board lights 2001 Toyota Corolla

First remove all the bulbs involve in the problem, then start installing the one by one, notice when the problem comeback, start looking for a melt, damage or very important wrong bulb touching two filaments at the same time.

Find the turn signal flasher and remove it, problem goes away ? inspect the circuit, the combination switch, the bulbs ans socket pig tails for short.

remove the two screws on top of the bezel pull the bezel out then remove the four screws holding the cluster then remove the wire harness that is plugged into the cluster and the lights are the big green tabs on the back of the cluster panel

Your switch must be working since your indicator is telling you when the high beams are on, so my guess is that your bulbs are faulty. The high beam part. They probably burnt out one at a time, so you didn't notice until the second one went. Change your bulbs, and see if that solves it. If not, let me know.

I've changed my dash lights out for Red and later Blue for a nice change. I had to pull the cluster (i.e. speedometer unit) out of the dash. You have to remove an trim pannel on the face of the dash to expose the screws holding the cluster in. Once you have them exposed you will then remove the screws and pull the cluster forward to get to the lights pluged into the back. If you want to change the color then this is the time to do it. You can find different colors at your local auto parts stores and some places such as Walmart.

There is a plastic garnish surrounding the instrument cluster held in by 2 philips head screws. remove the screws and gently pry the garnish from top first then sides then it should pull out.

Then remove the 3 screws holding the cluster in place (2 bottom 1 top). Once that is done gently flip the cluster bottom up and pull out some to expose the wiring harness. Remove the 3 connectors from the back and then the cluster will pull out.

There are 3 bulbs that control the overall lighting of the cluster. They are spaced about every third across the rear of the cluster. They are the larger Green knobs. Remove the 3 large green knobs and replace the bulbs with the appropriate size. You can call your local parts store to find out the size.

Its a 5 minute job and does not require the entire removal of the dash board.

I had the same problem in my 2001 Corolla. Removing the cluster was not a problem. Remove the two screws securing the 'bezel' around the cluster. You may need to use a small screwdriver then to gently pry the bezel out from the top and remove. Then remove three screws securing the instrument cluster and pull it out. Because newer cars have all electronic guages, there is no speedometer cable to make it difficult. Just pull it out, turn it over and twist the green bulb holders to get to the bulbs.

Most toyota dash lights are good for a minimum 10 years. My 1995 lexus lights are still going strong. You may have a problem with a fuse, so check that. Also, sometimes the connections will loosen and result in the light gradually going out (over months). What I was told for my lexus, may work for your corolla, so here goes. On the side where the lights are dim (or out) strike the top of the dash. Don't break anything, but give it a firm rap a few times. This may shake the connections enough to reseat the connectors and give you the light you need.

To remove and replace the dash lights require you to take the dash display out of the car, and remove / replace lights. It's generally not a task for a weekend mechanic, who needs the car to get to work monday thru friday. You have to remove the covers around the steering column and there are clips and screws holding the dash in place on the rear of the display. Also, take off all the electrical and speedometer cables. Open the hood. Observe the area above the right headlamp, close to the fender. You will see a phillips screw that holds a plastic tab. Remove the phillips screw. After removing the screw, pull the marker lamp assembly towards you. It may be real tight, if it has never been removed before. You need to pull the light assembly out of 2 retention sockets behind the marker lamp. Rotate the bulb socket to get to the bulb, replace the bulb, & slide it back in.Easy job.

Are you peeling back the dash board cover when you do this?I had to remove all knobs and remove dashboard screws in order to remove my radio. Hey I wonder if that's a security feature.
