Loss of oil pressure can be any of the following: defective oil gauge, defective oil gauge sending unit, defective oil pump, worn rod and main bearings, plugged oil pickup screen, insufficient oil in engine hole in oil pickup tube, etc. Many issues can cause low oil pressure. Take it to a mechanic for proper diagnosis.

Engine oil light flashing

Flashing oil light indicates a loss of oil pressure. No oil pressure will cause the engine to seize up. Check the oil level, if full verify that the oil sending unit is connected correctly. Listen for unusual engine noise (Shut down immediately to avoid damage to the engine), connect an oil pressure gauge to the oil sending port (remove sending unit) and verify oil pressure. the issue could be a loose connection, broken connection or plugged sending unit, as well as loss of oil pressure.

Peugeot 308 low oil pressure and loss some power

Low oil pressure starts from oil pump sounds like its blocked either in the pump filter or galleries in the enging. I would first call the dealer and check what filter system is on the pump which may require removal of the sump to replace or clean.

I would certainly not use a car with this problem as it could well cause engine failure. Try a good quality flush first and run the car for 20 minutes minimum on tick over. Remove and put a good quality oil in and do another oil change again if required a month later with a flush to make sure the gunge is out.

If this does not help do an oil pressure test and see what it comes out at checking the manufacturers recommended pressures. If you have changed the oil, pump filters and done a second oil change and still get low pressure then you may well have a faulty pump.

I would also check the oil pressure switch to make sure it s not giving a false reading. The loss of power sounds like Turbo failure and again dirty oil to the Turbo oil feed pipes could be restricitng flow, hence why regular flushing oil and filter change is important.

I would get the Turbo checked out same time as on this model it could well be a Turbo and engine change if its gone that far due to the metal particles contaminating the engine.

My 95 tahoe has an occasional ticking noise, loss of oil pressure at idle and loss of power

Prognosis is really bad, hate to tell you. Ticking comes from the valve lifters, losing lubrication due to lack of pressure and running dry. At redlights, when revs are at idle, oil pressure drops a lot, and engine really suffers. Have the vehicle taken immediately to a shop for proper diagnose and to see if engine can still be saved. The loss of power comes from the valves not actuating properly. Hydraulic lifters need oil at a decent pressure to "charge" , and if not charged, they will stay compressed, ruining valve lifting operation.

Had my oil changed on Friday and on Sunday my oil light came on and car shut off completely. The car has 103,000 thousand miles on it. What could have caused this?

Most vehicles ahve the oil pressure sensor tied into the engine computer, or the igntion. When there's a loss of pressure it shuts the engine off to try to save extensive damage to the engine. Check to see if there's oil in the motor, there may be a leak at the drain plug or the oil filter base gasket resulting in a loss of oil. Also it may be a faulty pressure sensor.

Oil pressure loss

the 1st thing u do is have the oil pressure tested with a test mechanical gauge by a shop, most times it is just the oil pressure sending unit is defective, but never assume that is the problem, low oil pressure will distroy a $5000.00 engine very quickly, u can just try a new sending unit, but highly recommend a pressure test with a mechanical gauge before you run the engine anymore.

Loss of oil pressure

main bearings are worn and when heats up they expand even more and oil can blow out these with less pressure.

Loss of oil pressure in a dodge 2500 with a V10 gas motor

Have your mechanic check the oil pressure with a pressure guage. A oil pressure sensor is the most possible cause, but please make sure of proper oil pressure to avoid engine damage.
