My jeep dosen't squeal...your does. The answer to your question is yes.
A loose or glazed belt can be noisy, a bad pulley bearing in anything the belt turns can also cause noise. If tightening the belt does not help, check each pulley with belt removed, for roughness, looseness or any binding.

My bottom pulley squeals real bad i dressed the belts and they stopped for a lil bit, the belt is snug. is there anything i can do to quiet the pulley on the bottom of the motor?this is a 97 jeep grand...

Is it possible that the belt tensioner is the cause for the squeal or possibly the belt itself needs to be replaced. Although not impossible, the lower pulley usually is not the cause for belt squeal, unless it is damaged.

Replacing water pump on a 1993 jeep grand cherokee

are you sure its water pump? it kind of sounds like your not sure. is there any visable leaks? if no leaks, that noise you hear could be that idler pulley your talking about. what you need to do is loosen the belt(witch there should be a spring loaded tennioner pully that you got to move to get belt off) once you get belt off spin all pulleys that the belt runs on and see if there noisey, or excessively loose, even fan blade, if fan blade moves alot back and forth than its time to replace water pump( fan is bolted to water pump),( it will move a little thats normal) i'am betting its not the pump, its most likely one of them idler pulleys. now if you need a belt routing diagram, advance auto, autozone, or any other major auto parts stores have web sites you can go on to get one, or you can get one from your local auto parts store, sense you will have to go there for a part any how. if you need anymore help just ask, i'll help you as much as i can. good luck. Loud squealing sound in my engine

Try removing the belt and turning each pulley by hand. If everything is smooth and free, with the belt still off, drive down the block once and see if the noise is there (this will eliminate all rotating accessories on the front). If you hear the noise, then there is a problem deeper inside. Oil pressure is good? Dont' forget when doing this, you will have no power steering, so be careful.

Ac makes noise after replacing the serpintine belt

Did you check your ac pulley before installing the belt? check for some play on your ac pulley. your ac pulley bearing must have been worn out and needs replacement.
