S10 chevy pickup died, replaced fuel pump, still will not start, fuel pump runs when connected directly to battery. Test light on connector shows power on gray wire, but when the connector is back on fuel pump nothing happens. Any ideas?

Have you checked your ground wire to the pump?

  • Vidar Haukaas Oct 05, 2013

The pump is OK when connecting the solenoid directly to positive pole on battery, so the ground wire must be ok!

  • Vidar Haukaas Oct 05, 2013

The problem on this VW transporter 1999 mod seems to be somewhere between the ignition key sw inside the car and the solenoid on the fuel pump.

Fuel pump testing

Yes the gray wire goes from the relay to the pump, and the black wire grounds the pump.
I should tell you running the tank dry kills the pump. The pump uses liquid gasoline to cool and lube the pump. Running low on gas makes the pump work harder and hotter. Never run an electric pump below 1/4 tank of gas.
While you have the pump out you should fix the gauge too if you can.

How do you reset a fuel pump in a 1998 chevy s10 truck 2.2 liter engine, 2 wheel drive? The truck hit a curb going pretty fast and now when you turn the key on the fuel pump does not come on. Is there an...

No, no reset for an S10. There would be a fuel pump relay under the hood in the fuse/relay block. And also a 10 or 15 amp fuse for the pump at this junction block as well.
Check the fuse, then find the tank electrical connector, pull it apart and find the gray wire -the fuel pump wire. Clip a test light lead to ground then put the tester probe into the gray wire terminal on the harness side of connector. Now have a helper turn the key to start and crank the engine over. The test light should light up if your electrical circuit is working. Before you drop the tank to investigate the fuel pump (it probably needs replacing), check if the ground for the pump is alright. Maybe when you hit the curb, you jarred loose the ground connection.

1989 Chevy S10 Blazer won't start unless I pour fuel in the TBI.

Fuel pressure regulator. It regulates the fuel pressure you receive going to the injectors. All the injectors would not be bad, so you have to take a step back to the next component, which should be the regulator.

1995 nissan pickup truck fuel problem

Fuel injected or carb? Make sure fuel line itself is clear. Some pumps are designed to self regulate (carb systems) some continually pump and a psi regulator sends back the excess fuel back to the tank (fuel inj systems) If the line is obstructed then pump can't deliver fuel fulltime.

If you think pump is not on consistent, try running a dedicated wire through a switch directly to the pump. If it works then you are looking for an electrical fault going to pump. Good luck.

Need a wiring diagram for a chevy s10. brake

your power starts at the brake light fuse, check with a test light, then proceed to stop light switch on brake pedal under dash, one wire will be hot when when you check it with your test light, the other won't be until you press down the brake pedal then the power flows through to the second wire,if no power to second wire replace switch,if you have power remove tail light bulbs and check for power in side socket.

Have 93 chevy s10, stopped and started just fine

the other wire that is "dead" is the ground wire for the fuel pump. try cutting that wire after the connector towards the pump, and running it to a good clean ground.
