Remove tire and wheel, remove caliper and brake rotor. DO NOT apply the brakes while the caliper is loose. Hit stud you want to replace hard with a LARGE HEAVY hammer to drive it out towards vehicle. DO NOT use a light hammer. It will distort the stud and possibly mushroom the end making it very difficult to remove. Once the stud is loose, you may or may not have enough room to get it out of the hole. You may need to pull the hub loose from the rear suspension to gain more room. Remove the stud. Place new stud in hole. Put a stack of washers over the stud, grease the threads, and using a new FLAT nut with the same threads as the lug nut, tighten until the stud is pulled all the way into the hub. Remove the flat nut, reattach the hub assembly (if you needed to take it loose) and reinstall the brakes.

How do I replace all five lug nuts on front driver side wheel?

They are pressed in from the backside of the wheel hub that the studs stick out from. And not like needing a heavy press- once you get the old studs driven out (usually works with a hammer or small mallet), you can easily draw the new studs right into a snug fit by using the lug nuts, the new ones you just bought along with the 5 new studs, available at most any parts store.

See it's not the lug nuts that are broken, those nuts tighten the tire to the hub by the lug nut studs that the tire fits over. It is the studs themselves that are breaking off. This is common enough that parts stores carry replacements. A chevy dealership might have just your size in stock, if you don't mind paying extra high dealership charges, but it might not be that much for these rather inexpensive items. In a lot of cases, the studs can be removed from the hub as it sits, but there are cases where the hub must be removed from the vehicle for stud replacement. You can eyeball it and pretty much tell if the studs can be removed easily, after you take the wheel (tire) off. For any work on the vehicle, don't rely on the jack. Use blocks or jack-stands always.

How to replace rear wheel studs on a 2008 Chrysler Aspen?

  • Sounds like the axles have to be pulled to get the studs out. Not that familiar with Aspens but if it wont clear the backing plate the hub assembly has to move out away from it.

Change a front wheel stud on a freelander

You need to take the entire wheel assembly off. The wheel stud will need to be pressed out of the hub and a new one pressed in.

Can you tell me if it takes special tools to remove the rear brake hub and brake line

No, there are no special tools required beyond everyday hand tools.

Raise the vehicle.
Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly from the vehicle If the vehicle is equipped with rear drum brakes, remove any retainer clips from the wheel mounting studs, then pull the brake drum off the hub and bearing.
If the vehicle is equipped with rear disc brakes perform the following:
Remove the two guide pin bolts securing the front disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
Remove the disc brake caliper from the knuckle and brake rotor.
Hang the caliper out of the way using a wire hanger or cord. Do not support the caliper by letting it hang by the hydraulic hose.
Remove any retainer clips from the wheel mounting studs, then pull the brake rotor off the hub and bearing.
Remove the dust cap from the hub and bearing assembly
Remove the retaining nut, then the hub and bearing from the knuckle's spindle

How do u fix a rear stud on a 1999 Nissan Maxima

You will need to remove the Rear Wheel, Brake Caliper, and Rotor to replace the Stud. Once those are removed, take a Hammer and hit the Wheel Stud from the front to drive the Stud out through the back of the Wheel Hub. Once the Stud is out, take the new Stud and insert it in the Hub from the back. You will need to get a Open Ended Nut with the proper thread size as the Stud and thread it on the Stud, and tighten the Nut till the Stud comes all the way through the hole and the end of the Stud is flush with the back of the Hub. Remove the Nut and you can now put everything back together.

Wheel Stud

If you remove the wheel drum you can knock out the broken stud. It is pressed into the hub. Take the hub to aan auto parts store ( so you get the same size stud) and buy a new stud. put the stud into the hole in the hub. When you remount you remount the tire and tighten the lug nuts that will pull the new stud up tight in the hub.

Hope this helps

Good luck Loringh
