Anything but the fuel pump!

Son ran the truck out of gas, and then killed the battery waiting for a ride! I charged up the battery, put three gallons of gas in the truck, and now it will crank, but will not catch. I distinctly CANNOT hear the fuel pump cycle. I even got underneath the truck to listen for it. Anything else it could be besides the fuel pump? Hate the idea of replacing that!

More then likely the fuel pump is shot. Might be the fuel pump relay but from experince it's the fuel pump. And changing the fuel pump isn't that hard on pickups. I have done several on the ground lowering the tank but if that dosn't sound pleasing you can take the bed off the truck. 6-8 bolts for the bed, two wire connectors for the tail lights, two hose clamps for the fuel inlet and vent tubes, and two guys to lift off the bed.

Tried to start 1999 kia sepha but I think it ran out of gas/ put 1 gallon gas in but it wont start

Could be the fuel pump. Can you hear it run when you turn the key on? If not sure, pull the gas cap and listen there. If you don't hear it. Hit the bottom of the tank about where the fuel pump would be. If it starts then, replace the fuel pump. Running out of gas will kill old fuel pumps. Check the plugs for spark. No spark, read the codes. Could be coil/s or crank sensor.

Model Buick LeSabre 3.8 LIt ran out of gas I put

first if the car is sittin on much of a slope a couple of gallons wont do it put in six or seven gallons of gas the fuel pump sits in a tray inside the gas tankthere has to be enough gas to go over the sides of tray. when your drivin the gas sloshs into tray. next find the end of the fuel rail and remove return line if theres no bleeder. turn key to on wait 20 seconds turn off turn back on this activates pump repeat until you hae fuel at return line.

The girlfriend was riving my 2002 xterra. she said it run out of gas it now has about three gallons of gas, all the lights work, i can hear the fuel pump engage but the starter will not. I tried unhooking...

what do you mean by the starter will not. do you mean engage turn over or does it turn over and wont start because the fuel pump and starter have nothing in common. first of all what were your codes set and second if it turns over see if you can smell full and third if it doesn't engage at all she probally ran the battery down so try charging your batt or you can put a dvom meter on it and it should read 12.6 volts full charged 12.4 3/4 12.3 50% which will not start the car so if its any thing below 12.3 charge the batt . Why won't my car stay running after it ran out of gas

Most newer cars are very sensitive to being ran low on gas. The fuel pump is in the tank and relies on fuel to cool it down. Your fuel pump is now probably not pumping the required pressure for the fuel injection system to work properly (or at all).

My son ran my truck out of gas. Its a 1988 F250

first, is this a diesel? if it is there is a line or oring loose allowing it to **** air--diesels dont like leaks like that and there is a whole procedure for voiding the air from the lines on diesels. next could be the in tank pump and also does it have duel tanks? does the duel tank switch work? running out of fuel with in tank pumps can burn up the pump (the fuel itself provides lubrication and cooling for the pump, gas or diesel) and of course check the filter, running out and refilling could have disturbed trash in the tank

Ran out of gas

Hi you need to change your fuel filter on your car as it is probably clogged with dirt as the car ran so low.
It is fitted under the car near the fuel tank.
Change your fuel filter first then check the fuel pump fuse as it may be blown as well if the pump was not able to pump fuel.
It should be a humming or hissing sound at the tank.
