2006 Toyota Matrix - problem starting car and with transmission

I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix, Base model, with an automatic transmission. I find that when the engine has been in use and is hot it will not start again, or it will take several attempts. Also the transmission has difficulty going from Park to either Drive or Reverse on the occasion that the vehicle does start when the engine is hot/warm. Any ideas of where to look or what would cause this?

I have a Toyota Matrix ( 2006). recently, after sitting outside for 6 hrs. would not shift into reverse or drive. Waited 10 minutes and restarted. Then it shifted into reverse! What is happening?

You have several ground wires on the transmission. 2 or 3 coming out of the harness and one big one going from the transmission to the body. Make sure they are secure.

2006 Toyota Matrix transmission

If I'm undersatanding you correctly this could be a shift solenoid. I would take it to an ASE certified transmission shop. This repair is beyond a DIYer.

This is very common on Matrix/Corollas and is repairable by way of replacement ECU to correct invalid parameters. the labor is low but the part is very expensive.

This is a known condition. And, is under warranty.

Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership. Ask them to replace your ECU per TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) TC015-07. The new ECU has redesigned logic that rectifys your condition.
