Problem: I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 L HEMI. My ABS and Parking Brake lights were illuminated, and my speedometer needle would "bounce". Also when sitting at a stop sign or just sitting idle, the engine would stall, and often times stop running.

Solution: After long research on this problem, I decided to dig in and try to find the problem myself. I replaced the Rear ABS Sensor
($35) that's located on top of the rear differential. Still no fix. I then unplugged the ABS Controller (or Module) that's located directly behind the battery (You should see the metal brake lines running into the top of it.) When I unplugged it, I noticed LOTS of moisture in the plug. Using an air hose, I blew out the water and let it dry good. When I plugged it back in, and hooked the negative battery terminal back up THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED!! Simple fix. Hope this helps.

I forgot about the Cruise issue. My cruise also stopped working, and I noticed my brake lights would stay lit anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds after lifting my foot off the brakes.

I simply replaced the brake pedal switch located just above the brake pedal. ($10) Took about 2 minutes if that.

Please rate and respond to both of my posts if this helps anyone else. I would like to get this solution posted all over the internet so we will no longer get ripped off by Dealerships for a simple fix. Thanks

My 97 ram 1500 4x4 has the brake and abs lights on all the time. I have brakes so I don't think it's brake pads etc. I'll try this. Thanks. I'll also change out the ABS sensor while I'm at it.

1998 Dodge Ram 1500. Why wont the rear driver brake bleed?

If one wheel cylinder is bad, the others won't be far behind. The fact that the brakes don't word at cruising speed leads me to believe that the servo assist / brake booster isn't working properly, or you have a vacuum leak.

Also, if you have ABS on the brakes, you have to use a pressure bleeder and pump fluid from the caliper up to the reservoir. The old way doesn't work, plus air naturally like to rise.

Hope that helps, but your best bet is to go to a QuickFit brake and exhaust place.

Gauge lights

ABS and Brake warning lights intermittent may be caused by a failing wheel speed sensor(ABS Sensor) and /or its connector. You may have one on each wheel hub(4WD) or if 2WD, a sensor may be on the rear axle differential center.

I have a 1995 dodge ram 2500 cummins the abs and brake lights are on and the cruise control is not working? I have replaced the master cylinder and the speed sensor in the rear axle

The warning lights mean there should be a trouble code stored in the body computer. I would start there.
When the ABS system is inop it may prevent the cruise from working too. Sometimes a hydraulic brake system failure will turn the ABS light on too. After repairs you would need to scan the system to turn the light off with most vehicles.
Are the brake lights in the rear of the truck staying on ?

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector first and let it sit for at least 10mins. before reconnecting it. This will reset the system and can get the electrical function back to it's normal operation.
If the problem still persists, I suggest that you have the PCM (powetrain control module) checked for it can be damaged due to the rain.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Random lights coming on in the dash and stalling occasionally

See if you can find out if there is a code for the check engine lite and the abs, those can be related if the speed sensor located on the top of the rear axle is intermittantly failing. That sensor sends the speed signal to the pcm and the abs controler witch will also turn off the cruise control.

The brake and ABS light both come on when you are receiving no speed signal. Most likely the speed sensor in the top of the rearend is bad.

Check engine light: Turn the key on three times in succession and wait for the codes. What are the codes?
Brake ABS light: When did you last have the brakes serviced?
No AC: Do you park your truck/car in a garage? Check the AC housing for leaves and debis which will burn out the AC fan motor.
