I'd recommend Preston antifreeze, manufacture recommends a 50-50 ratio of antifreeze and water

You can only use the orange, dont use the green antifreeze or it will mess it up. i brought a neon 2003 off my cousin and someone added green and i had to get a complete new radiator so be careful and if your still not sure take it to the dealer and they will tell you.

Any will 50/50 premix will do.

The more expensive the antifreeze the more additives are in it , designed for extra cooling properties and longer life etc.

Coolant is brown

brow and muddy color usually is a sign of not using enough antifreeze to protect system from rust.
drain the radiator and completely flush the system. use a quality flush system from the auto parts store. after system is flushed so it only flows clean water after draining a few times then empty system and refill with 50/50 antifreeze /water and make sure system is cycled through 5-6 time to make sure air is purged from the system

Car problems on my 2003 dodge neon se 2.0 engine

There are only two kinds of 2003 Dodge Neon SE's equipped with a 2.0L engine. The kind that has had car problems and the kind that is GOING to have car problems!

So tell me, what kind of car problems are you having?

I just don't know what kind of antifreeze my neon takes. its a 1998 Dodge Neon (sport). I had a leak and now i need to know what kind to put in it. i bought it used so i dont have a manual

Use any good quality, brand-name engine coolant, preferrably pre-mixed. If not pre-mixed be sure to use only de-mineralized water.

Can i add antifreeze myself

when you top up the radiator you should only use antifreeze as it keeps the mixture right, use a universal type antifreeze,so you dont have any mix problems.

I am flushing my radiator today, and need to know how much anti freeze my car should need. it is a 2003 Dodge neon SE.

It will need as much as it takes, which is impossible to tell depending on how you flushed it.
But your whole system takes more than 2 gallons, and since you want a 50/50 mix you know you will need more than one gallon of antifreeze. So you need to start by purchasing 2 gallons. If you have left over, it does not go bad. And if you do not quite have enough, you can probably add a little extra water because you probably did not flush all the antifreeze out.
Once you run it, then next time it will need more again after the heat bleeds the air out.

Need to put antifreeze in the radiator of my dodge neon. Do I have to drain it first or is there a way to get antifreeze in it without draining it. And if I do have to drain it where is the plug?

The drain plug is at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. I see no reason to drain it all out unless you just want to change it. If you do our Neons take the orange radiator fluid Havoline "Dex-Cool" invented by Havoline. It has a very bad taste added to it to protect children and pets. I changed it at 74000 in my wife's 2003 Neon SXT using a 50/50 mix of Dex-Cool and distilled water to avoid any scaling residue.

Our Neons cannot use any other type as it will ruin the internals of your engine the coolant comes into contact with.
The anti freeze is to be changed at 100,000 miles. If your coolant reservoir tank (located in the engine compartment on the drivers side just under the windshield large white plastic bottle) is always filling up over time and spilling over you may need a new radiator cap.

The radiator cap lets some of the coolant out in to the reservoir tank as you drive and the coolant expands due to heat. When your radiator cools off a vacuum is created inside of your radiator at that time your radiator cap is to open it's valve and **** the coolant from the reservoir tank back into the radiator via the small hose that leads from just under your radiator cap to the reservoir tank.

Make sure the hose leading from just under your radiator cap to the reservoir tank has a tight seal at both ends as well as no leaks.

If your cap is not operating properly it will just keep letting coolant out and not letting the radiator **** it back in resulting low coolant level in the radiator.
