1998 dodge grand caravan steering column diagram

The van wouldn't start. I would disconnect the battery for 5 mins or so and it would start. This last time it didn't. I have also had problems with the column locking up and not letting me turn the key. After jiggling the key, turning the wheel, making sure it's in park and cussing alot, I would get it to turn. Suggestions are grately appreciated. A diagram of the steering column would be very helpful.

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Caravan won't start...just a clicking noise...

Check the battery first. Just because the lights are on doesn't mean it has enough power to start the van. If you or the van has a volt meter, the battery should read at least 13-14 volts to be good. If the battery is good then the alternator is good and we move on to the starter solenoid. I'm sure it's one of these. Do the lights go off or very dim when you turn the key? If so then battery.

Testimonial: "Thank so very much! It was the battery and easily fixed with a new duralast from AutoZone!"

When i start my 1998 dodge grand caravan my headlights,taillights,dash-lights start blinking off and on . why is this happening?

It is due to the hvac being out of calabration. On the left side of the A\C control panel hold down the top and bottoms buttons with the engine running, high blower, panel, full cold (both levers if so equipped). When the lights on the panel come on solid and then start flashing release buttons. It will take about 2 mins or less for it to calibrate. If only the top left button is flashing you are done. Press that button once or restart van all function should be normal.

CAUTION The Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system must be disarmed before working around the air bag or SIR system wiring. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment of the air bag, resulting in unnecessary SIR system repairs and/or personal injury.
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2. In order to disarm the air bag system, allow the system capacitor to discharge for at least 2 minutes, before performing any removal procedures.
  3. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from behind the combination switch.
  5. Remove the mounting screws securing the combination switch to the steering column adapter collar.
  6. Remove the combination switch from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Install the combination switch to the steering column adapter collar. Tighten the combination switch mounting screws.
  2. Reconnect the electrical connector to the combination switch.
  3. Install the upper and lower steering column shrouds and tighten the retaining screws.
Reconnect the negative battery cable and check all functions of the combination switch for proper operation.

How to change ignition switch on 98 dodge caravan

this is possible but before you start you will have to have a wheel puller. You have to remove the steering wheel and all the covers on the steering colum. the ignition switch is located behind the steering wheel. take out bolts, probably torx bits, look like a star, should be 3 of them. not hard if you have the proper tools. I did mine about a month ago, took me about an hour.Start to finish.

How do i remove the Powersteering pump in my 1998

Replace the ps pump, brake fluid is not a lubricant, your pump is scored, raise the van, block it, remove the sheild, belt and right axle, and remove the pump, you will have to flush the system with 4-5 litres of PS fliud only. GOOD LUCK, RDJRP
