Trans overheated is showing on the van what causes this

your tranny filter screen is probably clogged.. if not, you may have a pinched cooler line running to the radiator. you will see two metal lines going into radiator side tank. these cool the tranny during driving.. give those things a check.. warning.. HEAT KILLS A TRANNY FAST!

Ok here is the deal. 1999 ram van 3500. i shorted the battery with jumping another car. ran fine before the short but now....... no more transmission. no power. feels like being in neutral? what can be the...

Shorts wreak havoc on these newer cars with all of it's electronic. The lack of idle is the idle motor on the throttle body, it is an electrical solenoid on the body,it is most likely black and looks like a small film canister with wire and is found high on body (most likely fried)replace.Tranny issue: check make sure linkage is moving the correct distance at the tranny. You may need to remove linkage from tranny and shift the tranny by hand to see if it moves the right amount. The tranny also has electrical solenoids on it's control body. You will have to remove the pan from the tranny still on the car and locate and replace them
