How to adjust idle speed on ford falcon el 6 cylinder 1997 model
Wam the car up, disconnect the idle speed control valve wiring plug (idle control valve sits on top of the throttle body) then set the idle to 700rpm with the grub screw stop just above where the throttle cable fits to the throttle body. Reconnect theidle control valve and you're done. It may take a few k's driving for the ECU to relearn the new throttle stop position. The idle speed control valve is only used by the ECU to add idle speed when extra load is put onto the engine such as power steering or air con use, the base idle is set mechanically on the old falconns.

You don't. The computer will adjust it self for the adjustment you make. Check the computer for codes. You maybe have a code in it; or need to check tps sensor.

Most older cars have a mechanical fuel pump mounted to the side of the engine. Usually turns from the Cam or Crankshaft. i would check under the Valve Cover area. should be a small pump that is mechanically driven by the engine. probably half the size of your fist. Trace the fuel line from the carb to it. most oder cars have this set-up. I hope this helps you out. Never worked on a Ford Falcon. My 74 dodge B100 had that as well as my 78 Lemans. Good Luck!

If there is a Auto Zone around your area, have them scan the Explorer for any DTC codes since it's fee of charge. But in the mean time buy a can of MAF cleaner and follow the instructions and also buy a can of Trottle body cleaner and follow the instructions on the can. Clean the MAF and the Throttle body, also try to get the Idle Air Control falve cleaned too which is on the throttle body. So use up the whole can of Throttle body cleaner and it would not hurt to use two cans. Once everything is cleaned that should fix the problem, the other thing to that would cause your poor idle and stalling is a bad or dirty EGR valve which can be cleaned with Carburetor cleaner since it's stronger then the Throttle body cleaner, just remove the EGR and spray the Carbon build away and place back in place. Note: the Carb cleaner is to strong for the gaskets used on the throttle body so don't use it on the throttle body. Good luck and this should help get your Explorer running 100% soon.
