Check both hub bearings and c/v joints for looseness or damage.

Sounds like a warped rotor , go get both front ones either turned down or just get new ones and new brakes

2014 Kia Rio hatchback, when accelerating fast the front end will shake quite a bit, at lower acceleration, maintaining speed, or coasting there is no vibration.

A high speed " shimmy" is a red flag for a balance or tire problem. Check the treads on the tires for even wearing & ck for balding. PS, after u did all of all of the front end work was it aligned? . start w a rotate & rebalance. CHECK THOSE TIRES!

Car accelerates itself

If it is an auto then it is possible it is idling to high and the trans is still engaged despite you foot being off the peddle. Try lowering the idol speed as a first resort.

What is the cause of continual thumping (appears to be coming from back of car) and violently shaking?

Many times, rear tires that are out of round or severely cupped or feathered, or that are out of balance can create this type of issue. My first recommendation would be to have them and the wheels on the rear of the car inspected. There may not seem like there is much wrong visibly if you look at just the tread of the tires, but a good tire tech can spin them up and give you some solutions, and the inspection itself is inexpensive. Hope this helps.

I think I have a timing issue. My car takes a second to start up and the car jolts when it changes gears. Also, my steering wheel shakes left and right when I'm driving at low speed

Ok,

same car with the AC problem. Timing is not going to make this all happen.

  • If its jaulting as an automatic, through the gears, then probably check and change the fluid and the filter in the transmission. Usual jolting is from lack of fluid pressure, caused by lack of or blocked filter.

  • Start up could be anything from a weak battery to lack of fuel/choke. Try a new fuel filter, air filter element, check your oil and change the spark plugs.

(Symptoms of bad ignition timing are misfire and run on also extreme lack of power and rough idle. The car will also shudder and keep running a few seconds after the key is switched off.)

  • The steering shaking from left to right at low speed could be a few things. Is it only happening at low speed? Sometimes its hard to tell at high speed as it is happening so fast the frequency is almost unable to be felt. However when you brake it should be pretty strong if its a mechanical fault, ie disc warped or bent wheel.
