How can I replace the right front turn signal on a 1997 Ford Taurus? Do I have to take off the covering or must I go into it from the inside? Can I even do it myself? How much would be the average cost of having it done in a repair shop?
The advise above is worthless. You dont have access to the location to where everyone makes it sound so easy to do. It is not easy and no one has been able to explain how to do it. It is increadible how a manufacturer could make such a simple thing so increadibly complexed. I think they did it on purpose so one would be dependent on the service department for additional revenue. Remember these things when they ask for bailouts and try to sell you on how much they care. They are all the same and only care about your monry.
If you are just replacing the bulb, then it is accessable from the engine compartment with minimal effort. You may have to remove the battery or any other movable object right behind the headlight, but in a lot of cases, even that is not necessessary. Look at the rear of your headlights (through the engine compartment) and on the far side twards the fender (where the turn signal should be) there will be a wire running into it. At the point of where the wire meets the casing there should be some type of clip. You just rotate the clip about 1/4 turn or less and it will release the clip with bulb attached. Then push, twist, and release on the bulb to get it out of it's socket. Installation is reverse of removal.l
