With the engine off, put your foot on the brake pedal and press down. The pedal should go nowhere. With foot still pressing on pedal, start the car. The pedal should move down. If not, could be an issue with the servo such as a cracked / leaking air hose or an issue with the master cylinder seals.
Try a brake servo test by pumping the brake pedal until hard and keeping pressure on the pedal and start the engine and if the servo is working the pedal should move down slightly if not servo is faulty
If you have ABS the pump could be faulty and that needs a trained engineer to test and repair if possible

Any pulling to passenger side or after driving for 2 to 3 min's feel the Center of the steel tim where the Lug nuts are on both drivers front and passenger front wheel both should be cool to warm if 1 is hotter then the other you have a stuck brake.

Many decades ago cars had no power assist and took much more foot pressure and much longer distance to stop. So your brakes were working, just not the assist.
The power assist is provided by a vacuum line from the engine. The likely causes of the failure are: stalling or stopped engine, leak in hose from engine to brake assist booster or leak in the diaphragm inside the brake booster. There are also other much less likely causes from brake fluid lines and the master cylinder. Regardless, don't drive knowing the brakes are likely to fail.

Try the following to confirm if is the servo unit .( engine off,pump few times the brake pedal to become stiff.Keeping pressed the pedal start the engine and if servo is working you will feel the pedal slightly goes down.If not will not move at all-remain stiff.) Also if you do have the check valve close to servo not working you can realize it by the engine idle ( erratic ) and the servo not working.The other possibility if the vehicle is fitted,the ABS unit itself.
