There are a number of fuses that cover tow features. Cruise Control has a number of items that control it. you probably need an auto electrician to diagnose and fix. Ideas in the link though.
theyve had quite a few problems with the switch on steering wheel but also check for any trouble / pending codes will cause problem with remote start and cruise
With the wrench light on ,DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the module's . This indicates there is a problem with the transmission or the electronic throttle control . Have it checked for DTC'S
My 2008 Ford Edge had the same error with the same issue - no power in drive, will only go in reverse. My Ford Dealer is replacing a speed sensor and a turbine sensor. They also recommended a transmission flush and re-programming. Total estimate is 4-5 hours plus parts - about $1,000.
if it stopped working during cold icy period maybe small tubes have blown off under hood that feed the washer units that go to screen this is quite common
There is a brake light switch that ,disconnects the cruise control, when braking, this maybe the problem, even if the brake lights work fine, the switch still could cause this problem, replace the brake light switch.
have you gone through any deepwater lately, if so than you may have a short in the fuse box under the hood, remove the cover and than remove the fuses after you inspect than blow out entire fuse box with compressed air until satisfied, than re istall the fuses ( also check horn fuse to make sure its good) and start it up.......hope I could help
