definately a vacuum problem, try changing your pvc valve its under $5.00 and easy

Check the idle fuel pressure. Load the electrical with headlights and heater defrost etc and see if problem gets worse. Attempt again with all accessories off. Could be fuel pump is getting low voltage at idle or fuel pump is failing. Bad fuel pump would definitely be a problem high fuel demand. Check vacuum line between pressure regulator to intake manifold.

Check for a air leak in the intake manifold. Gasket/hose etc. The P0171/P0174 is an indication that not enough fuel or tow much air. You can sometimes hear the air leak during idle.


Best solution is to use a graphic capable scan tool and watch the fueling trim/idle.

bad fuel filter maybe or air filter or you need new spark plugs or wires or a new distributor

check fuel filter fuel pump pressure

maybe Co2 sensor easy to do in the front of engine its on your down pipe,unscrew and unplug.

I have a 98 Windstar and it would die when pulling up to a stop sign, slowing when coming to a stop or making a slow turn. According to Ford recall 98E03 EMISSIONS RECALL some vehicles may stall during deceleration when coming to a stop, during slow speed parking maneuvers and/or coasting thru slow sweeping turns. This may be caused by the Powertrain Contro lModule (PCM) calibration dropping the rpms too quickly during deceleration. This involves reprograming the PCM. The revised calibration will allow the engine rpms to drop slowly during low speed maneuvers to reduce the possibility of a stall. Call your local FORD dealership (have your VIN handy) and have them check to see if this recall has been performed on your vehicle.

SOUND LIKE WEAK FUEL PUMP.YOUR VECHICLE IS SURGING WHEN FUEL PUMP GOING BAD.REPLACE FUEL FILTER.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 35 - 45 PSI WITH KEY ON ENGINE OFF.IF FUEL SYSTEM OKAY. YOU COULD HAVE BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.

Sounds like you are on the right track with the crank sensor.
