You have to be very careful with any of the ignition and firing components of a volvo, its not a chevy 350, one tiny mistake and she wont respond. best to plug he in to a OBD see what the code reads.

The car has this 2.3L and 2.4L 5-Cylinder Engines Firing Order: 1?2?4?5?3 Distributor Rotation: Counterclockwise.
The distributor is attached horizontaly to the ground and is connected at end of the cylinder head. The wires are now connected left to right from the first cylinder 1, then 2, then 3,then 4, and then 5, in the firing order discribed above and the vehicle appears to be running good. How do we now reset the check engine light?
The volvo 850 gets its spark from camshaft position sensor, some have two ECUs and some have One. The one that has two ECUs the 2.1 is the one responsible for ignition. If you are technical enough can tell how to do the tests using a multimeter.
