i can tell you this was a very common problem on the 91-94 S series instrument cluster, so common that an odometer repair kit was sold on eBay for just a few bucks. so you could go look at eBay and see if there is an odometer repair kit for the 00 & 01 S series as I think they were not made after 01 and the 95-99 clusters were different. A search on www.youtube.com always turns up interesting Saturn repair videos.
I would start with you battery terminals. the side posts will get hot, melt the ring and lose connection, just grab the cables and move it back and forth. If it seems loose then try and tighten the posts. if that all seems tight and good then you might have passlock system fault. these vehicles have alot of issue with the BCM. need to codes in the computer to understand what is going on. Please note that BCM stores the odometer reading for the dash so if a used one is pruchased it will have to match the odometer. and the engine types are important. good luck.
The problem is your Body Control Module, located on top the glove box.It will need replaced & programmed to fix.Costs about $300.00 It also has to be new due to mileage being stored inside.Hope this helps
My odometer reads the same. My mechanic said it was my instrument cluster, which is a $900 part and $100 to install. I guess I don't really need my odometer.
You will need a new BCM (Body Control Module) as this is what actually counts the miles. Very common issue on the L-Series. I hope this helps please leave me a rating. Thank you!
