get a used car harness from car-parts.com (wreckers)
is the button broken? check the fuse check for broken wires or bad connection use a muti meter and check for continuity trace back to solinoid or acuator
Your first option should be to check all the connections. Corrosion and
moisture can set in if the cars left unused for any length of time. Check your
fuses around the brake system; this could be a problem for grease losing, damage the axle in short time. Other posibility is one electricla switch or sensor bad.
The 4WS system is a fairly complex setup hence Toyota will probably
charge an arm and a leg for fixing any fault on it (also it is a ***
option).
There are five main components, main motor, backup motor, speed sensor,
steering sensor and 4WS computer so it could be any of these, also add a
possible wiring fault on top of that.
You can carry out a diagnostic test to interrogate the 4ws management
fault code by bridging TC and E1 connections at the diagnostic plug
(situated next to the top of the passenger front suspension strut in the
engine bay). With these two connections shorted you should get a series
of flashes from the 4WS light on the dash when you switch on the
ignition. Each series of flashes represents a digit which can be looked
up.
take the vehicle to autozone to have them run a free check engine diagnostic test to see what the codes are and they will tell you what the codes mean. could be an abs wheel bearing wire.
