96 Ford Explorer is studdering (misfiring) when going up hills

96 Ford Explorer is studdering (misfiring) when going up hill and feels like it is losing power on hills. Also, has a misfire when idling. Seems to be drinking gas with this problem. Spark plugs, wires are new. Problems are not as bad with Shell gas but acts up more with other gasolines. We have changed 4 or 5 sensors, cleaned intake, cleaned throddle body. Thanks

I have the same exact problem that just started immediately AFTER I got a tranny service where they changed the Trans Fluid, Trans Filter, Fuel Filter. Took it back and they say nothing is wrong with it. Took it to the dealer thinking I could get some REAL answers... they just told me to replace spark plugs, wiring & coil, for $900. Only studders when quickly accelerating above 40mph. I've check other forums, they say to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. Haven't tried it yet. This seems the easiest before replacing spark plugs. Any other suggestions anyone?? Please.....

What would cause my 2000 ranger to buck between 45 and 50 mph going up hill

Yea! I'd like to see the answer to this also!
My Ford Explorer 2000 does the same thing going up hill. Especially with a loaded trailer on.
Local mechanic had it for the day and couldn't put his finger on it.
I can alleviate the problem by turning the AUTO Trak knob to 4x4 Hi while driving and the jerking stops.
I'll keep an eye here to see what others think
Cheers

Idle misfire a skip up hill

Check engine codes for misfire data--should say which cylinder.

When driving sometimes it studders when you push the gas

Sounds like a misfire..either maybe a bad coil..or a simple tune up wires and plugs..If it feels like a ""fish bite"" when accelerating slowly up a hill..then its usually in the ignition system..Also look for codes..Is the engine light on or flashing..that indicates which cylinder

My 94 ford explorer has no power going up hills.and it starts to sputter, everyone i know is telling me its the transmission. but its not bucking. i would appreciate any help at all.

if you engine is not racing going up hills its not the transmission, change the fuel filter, or maybe a vaccuum hose is unhooked under the hood

Misses, backfires when going up hills

You are most likely having a coil on plug (c.o.p.) misfire - there are 8 in your engine.
