How can I replace the exterior door handle on a jeep commander
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Pull back the weather seal and disconnect the linkage to the outer door handle and then remove the bolts securing the outer handle to the door
Prob. need to remove inside door panel to access screws/bolts- if it's integrated with lock mechanism, could be complicated!! just removing inside door panel can be a chore, if you don't have the right tools! get quotes from several 'authorized' mechanics, or dealers! go from there! however, if you're lucky, may have plugs over external fasteners! if you can see them, and pry them out- you may be in luck! prob. need special 'bit' to remove them. get a replacement handle, and install it yourself!
harbor freight, ace and others sell 'bit-kits'! may need a 'torx', 'allen', or some other 'wierdo' bit to do the job.
hope you can do it yourself, and save a bundle- however, if the door panel needs removing, you may need a 'pro', with the tools, to do it! (sorry to say!).
good luck!!
