How to change 2003 kia optima sedan fuel filter

The fuel filter location varies with engine size on the Kia Optima. The 1.5-, 1.6- and 2.4-liter engines have the fuel filter located under the car in the front left corner of the fuel tank. The 1.8-liter engine has the fuel filter located on the driver's side firewall. All the filters have the same replacement procedure. There are actually two filters on the Kia Optima. A filter called a strainer is attached to the intake side of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

To change the filter follow this procedure:-

•Lift the hood and remove the cap on the fuse and relay box located on the driver's side fenderwell. Look at the bottom of the cap for the location of the fuel pump relay within the box. Pull the fuel pump relay out and lay it sideways in the box.

•2
Start the engine. It is not likely to start and even if it does it will only run for a second since the fuel pump relay has been removed, which disabled the fuel pump. This procedure will drop the fuel pressure in the fuel line. Raise the rear of the vehicle with the floor jack and support it by the frame with the jack stands. This is for engines 1.5, 1.6 and 2.4.

•3
Remove the fuel lines on both ends of the fuel filter. Use the scribe--a long pointy needle--to lift the white retainer straight up located in the center of the connector. This releases the fuel line from the fuel pump. Do the same to the other side of the fuel pump.

•4
Remove the bolt in the center of the fuel pump retainer bracket using a 10 mm socket. Pull the fuel pump out of the bracket.

•5
Insert the new fuel pump into the retainer bracket. Make sure that the inlet side faces the fuel line to the fuel tank and the outlet toward the fuel line to the engine. Install the fuel pump and bracket and tighten the bolt.

•6
Place a white retainer clip that came with the filter into the holes in each of the connectors. Just push it in enough to snap the bottom ends of the clip in place. The clip should now be standing straight up with just the bottom tips in the connectors. Push each of the fuel lines into the filter one at a time. Holding the fuel line tightly into the filter, push the white retainer clip down to lock the fuel filter and fuel line together. Lower the car and replace the fuel pump relay. Start the car and check for leaks.

Where the fuel filter located on a 2002 Ford explorer

your fuel filter is well hid !! the fuel tank is on the passengers side of your explorer on the fuel filer is located on the front top of your fuel tank ! access to the filter is obtained by removing the heat shield at the front of the fuel tank, there are two bolts retaining the shield to the right frame rail and two bolts retaining the shield to the cross member. once the shield is removed you will see the filter,Be careful removing the fuel lines, the lines have locking clips that DO NOT remove from the lines !! and can be damage if you are not careful (which will result in complete line replacement if the ends are broken. the line clips are released by disengaging the top of the clip then folding the the edge over towards the side its attached to next push both side's in (towards center on top edge) then push clip down part way while pulling line loose .Good luck Thanks for using fix ya

Fuel filter replacement

need instructions for fuel filter replacement? 1st you'll need to loosen the gas cap to releive the pressure from the gas tank. the fuel filter is located on the frame under your drivers side door. you may need to jack the truck up, if so make sure to use jackstands under the truck for your safety!!follow the fuel line to the filter, a round cylider type canister. use safety glasses, just in case the fuel leaks, for your eye safety,i recommend that!! there will be a plastic retaining clip on both sides of the fuel filter, you'll need a pair of needle nose pliers to remove those, one at a time, the filter will have fuel still in it so be careful as not to spill it into or onto yourself. after you reve each clip the filter can be removed by pulling gently on each fuel line. replace ment is the same way, just make sure the fuel lines are connected properly, the filter will be marked with an arrow showing fuel flow the arrow on filter should point towards the engine, make sure both fuel lines are pushed in, and plastic clips snap into place, when you start truck, make visual check for leaks!! if leaking, the plastic clips are'nt properly installed. thank you for choosing fixya.com and as always, if you need further assistance please post your question and we will be happy to assist you.

How do I change the fuel filter

Fuel Filter REPLACEMENT It is recommended that the fuel filter be replaced periodically. The filter is of one-piece construction and cannot be cleaned, so it must be replaced. Carbureted Engines Fig. 1: View of the fuel filter used on carbureted engines 85551036.gif
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2. Loosen and remove the fuel tube from the filter.
  3. Unscrew the filter from the carburetor.
  4. Apply Loctite® or equivalent to the external threads of the new filter and screw the filter into the carburetor.
  5. Hand-start the tube nut into the fuel filter. While holding the filter with a wrench to prevent it from turning, tighten the fuel line tube nut.
  6. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  7. Replace the air cleaner.

If the filter does need to be replaced, proceed as follows: CAUTION
If the fuel filter is being serviced with the rear of the vehicle higher than the front, or if the tank is pressurized, fuel leakage or siphoning from the tank fuel lines could occur. To prevent this condition, maintain the vehicle front end at or above the level of the rear of vehicle. Also, relieve tank pressure by loosening the fuel fill cap. The cap should be tightened after pressure is relieved.
  1. Shut the engine OFF. Depressurize the fuel system as follows: On the 2.3L EFI engine, a valve is located on the throttle body for this purpose. The valve can be located by removing the air cleaner. On the 2.9L EFI engine use the following steps:
    • Remove the gas cap.
    • Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator located on the engine fuel rail.
    • Using a hand vacuum pump, apply approximately 25 in. Hg pressure to the pressure regulator.
Fuel pressure will be released into the fuel tank through the fuel return hose. On most EFI engines the fuel pressure can be relieved as follows. Use special tool T80L-9974-B or equivalent attached to the pressure measuring port on the engine fuel rail. Direct the drain hose to a suitable container and depress the pressure relief button. An alternate method of relieving the fuel system pressure is to disconnect the electrical connector from the inertia switch and crank the engine for about 15–30 seconds until it runs out of fuel and dies.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the push connect fittings at both ends of fuel filter. Install new retainer clips in each push connect fitting.
  4. Remove the filter from the bracket by loosening the filter retaining clamp enough to allow the filter to pass through. NOTE: The flow arrow direction should be positioned as installed in the bracket to ensure proper flow of fuel through the replacement filter.
  5. Install the filter in the bracket, ensuring proper direction of flow as noted by arrow. Tighten clamp to 15–25 inch lbs. (1.7–2.8 Nm).
  6. Install the push connect fittings at both ends of the filter.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Clean all dirt and/or grease from the fuel filter fittings. "Quick Connect'' fittings are used on models equipped with a pressurized fuel system. These fittings must be disconnected using the proper procedure or the fittings may be damaged. The fuel filter uses a "hairpin'' clip retainer. Spread the two hairpin clip legs about 1⁄8 in. (3mm) each to disengage it from the fitting, then pull the clip outward. Use finger pressure only; do not use any tools. Push the quick connect fittings onto the filter ends. Ford recommends that the retaining clips be replaced whenever removed. The fuel tubes used on these fuel systems are manufactured in 5⁄16 in. and 3⁄8 in. diameters. Each fuel tube takes a different size hairpin clip, so keep this in mind when purchasing new clips. A click will be heard when the hairpin clip snaps into its proper position. Pull on the lines with moderate pressure to ensure proper connection. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks. If the inertia switch (reset switch) was disconnected to relieve the fuel system pressure, cycle the ignition switch from the OFF to ON position several times to re-charge the fuel system before attempting to start the engine. prev.gif next.gif

Looking for the location of the fuel filter on an 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis

Fuel Filter REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CAUTION
Never smoke when working around or near gasoline! Make sure that there is no igniting source near your work area! Fuel Injected Engines The fuel filter is of a one-piece construction which cannot be cleaned. If it becomes clogged, it must be removed and replaced. When replacing the fuel filter use the filter specified for the engine being serviced. The inline filter is mounted on the same bracket as the fuel supply pump. It is on the frame rail under passenger side of the vehicle, in front of the fuel tank. To replace the filter: Fig. 4: Whenever you see a warning label, read it 86651210.jpg
CAUTION
Fuel supply lines on fuel injected vehicles will remain pressurized for some time after the engine is shut off. Fuel pressure must be relieved before servicing the fuel system.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel tank cap to relieve any pressure in the fuel tank.
    2. Remove the cap from the Schrader valve located on the fuel injection supply manifold in the engine compartment.
    3. Attach fuel pressure gauge T80L–9974–A or equivalent, to the Schrader valve and drain the fuel through the drain tube into a suitable container.
    4. After the fuel system pressure is relieved, remove the fuel pressure gauge and install the cap on the Schrader valve.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  4. Disconnect the fittings from both ends of the fuel filter as follows:
    1. Inspect the visible portion of the fitting for dirt accumulation. If more than a light coating of dust is present, clean the fitting before disassembly.
    2. Some adhesion between the seals in the fitting and the filter will occur with time. To separate, twist the fitting on the filter, then push and pull the fitting until it moves freely on the filter.
    3. Remove the hairpin clip from the fitting by first bending and breaking the shipping tab. Next, spread the 2 clip legs by hand about 1⁄8 in. (3.1mm) each to disengage the body, then push the legs into the fitting. Lightly pull the triangular end of the clip and work it clear of the filter and fitting. NOTE: Do not use hand tools to complete this operation. Damage to the fittings may result.
    4. Grasp the fitting and pull in an axial direction to remove the fitting from the filter. Be careful on 90°elbow connectors, as excessive side loading could break the connector body.
    5. After disassembly, inspect the inside of the fitting for any internal parts such as O-rings and/or spacers that may have been dislodged from the fitting. Replace any damaged connector(s). Fig. 5: Carefully remove the hairpin clip 86651211.jpg
Fig. 6: With a rag under the hose to catch any gasoline spillage, slowly separate the line from the filter 86651212.jpg

  5. If equipped, remove the filter retainer bolts and remove the filter and retainer from the mounting bracket. Remove the filter from the retainer. Note that the direction of the flow arrow on the fuel filter. Remove the rubber insulator rings, if installed. Inspect the rings for cracks or wear, and replace if needed. Fig. 7: Remove the hardware securing the filter to the housing 86651213.jpg
Fig. 8: Lower the filter assembly, then separate the pieces 86651214.jpg
    To install:
  6. Install the fuel filter with the flow arrow facing the proper direction as before, then tighten the filter retaining clamp(s).
  7. If the original filter was equipped with rubber insulator rings, install the rubber insulator rings on the new filter. Install the filter into the retainer with the flow arrow pointing in the correct direction. Install the retainer on the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 27–44 inch lbs. (3–5 Nm).
  8. Connect the fittings at both ends of the fuel filter as follows:
    1. Install a new connector if damage was found. Insert a new clip into any 2 adjacent openings with the triangular portion pointing away from the fitting opening. Install the clip until the legs of the clip are locked on the outside of the body. Piloting with an index finger is necessary.
    2. Before installing the fitting on the filter, wipe the filter end with a clean cloth. Inspect the inside of the fitting to make sure it is free of dirt and/or obstructions.
    3. Apply a light coating of engine oil to the filter end. Align the fitting and filter axially and push the fitting onto the filter end. When the fitting is engaged, a definite click will be heard. Pull on the fitting to make sure it is fully engaged.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 1997 contour gl

Fuel filter replacement for the 1995-1997, 1998 Ford Contour (4 Cyl 'Zetec' 16V and 24v Duratech V6) Fuel filter is located under the passenger side of the car in front of the rear wheel. Time: 5-10 min Tool needed: One flat head screwdriver Replace this filter is fairly easy. First, have a replacment filter and absorbent material as this will spill some gas. Suggestion: Remove black caps from new fuel filter. Have those handy when removing old filter. You can use them to cap the gas that will flow out of the old fuel filter, thus saving you a small mess. Also, take a good look at how the old fuel filter looks attached. Replace the new fuel filter with the same side (IN-OUT) The fuel filter is attached via a simple screw cable. Unscrew the cable to loosen the fuel filter (It will not detach by itself). Give it enough slack to pull out once you are ready. Next ,using screwdriver, pop-off white plastic retaining clips. Remove front and rear fuel line. Replace with new filter. Connect fuel lines. Connect white retaining clips on both sides (There will be some play on the connection, but that's normal). Screw the screw cable so filter is connected firmly (Do not overtighten and make sure screw nut is visible so you can see it the next time you need to replace filter. Double check your connections. Turn the ignition to ON for 5 seconds - but do not turn the car on. This will allow the fuel pump to push gas through the filter. Turn ignition OFF. Check to see if there is leakage. If no, turn car's motor ON.
