Quite a few people have this problem ,it would appear that the problem lies in the connection plug where the lights wiring connects to the chassis loom.normally a quick clean and grease of the connections works wonders

Testimonial: "thanks will try that is the plug inside the car or outside"

I have a 2002 Land Rover Freelander that is stuck in Park. The stop light switch has been replaced with an autozone part, but it still does not work. The break lights are also not working.

This might help you. Otherwise, just find a mechanic you trust and have him or her check the brake light bulbs. It could also be fuse problems. Check the diagram for your lights or check your manual. http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5166/land-rover/freelander/freelander-transmission-problems

Location of brake light switch fault on 2002 discovery freelander

The brake light switch is on top of brake pedal arm. Check your bulbs, and connections to the rear lights (unplug harnesses and clean the connectors as well as bulb(s) etc... )

Also, it (shouldn't) be the brake light switch if you can shift out of park. Good luck.

That is NORMAL -- just found out myself. ONLY- the center light and the lower (bumper) lights are your brake lights. The main lights are ONLY used for running lights.... Got to luv it!

I have a 2002 Freelander 2.5 SE automatic V6. All the interior lights are working apart from the centre console lights. The fuel, temperature, rev counter and speedo are all working. The heated rear screen...

The internal panel lights work off the left hand side of the side lights and are protected by the 10 amp fuse for this side. I had replaced both stop and tail lights with a heavy duty bulbs and because the left hand side powers the panel lights as well, obviously it was too much for the circuit. The right hand side was okay.

W reg landrover, freelander

This fuse is no.2 in the fuse box above the pedals and it should be a 15 amp.If you plugged a trailer in then check those electrics or check your brake light switch on the brake pedal.
