Check your fuses, especially the stop/horn fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. Fuses are in two areas. In the interior fuse box (left kick panel, below the dash--fuse chart on the cover) and in the engine compartment fuse box (far upper left as you face the car: fuse chart on the cover).
Hope this is of some help.

Location of brake light switch fault on 2002 discovery freelander

The brake light switch is on top of brake pedal arm. Check your bulbs, and connections to the rear lights (unplug harnesses and clean the connectors as well as bulb(s) etc... )

Also, it (shouldn't) be the brake light switch if you can shift out of park. Good luck.

How to remove break light bulb in 2003 mitsibushi spyder

Check the brake light switch located on the brake pedal arm. Its above the pedal under the dash and has a connector with several wires attached to it. The switch is either bad, broken, or out of adjustment. If you have to step on the brake to shift out of park there is also a another switch located there as well.

Brake lights will not work, all other lights work

Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs. Is shifter fully in Park? Also try jiggling the turn signal lever.

The power flow for the brake lights goes like this: Fuse ->Brake switch -> Turn signal switch -> Rear lights. The only difference is, if you have a 3rd brake light in your rear window, that gets its power directly from the brake switch. It does not go thru the signal switch first. So, if you are having a brake light problem, and your fuses are good, check the 3rd light in the rear window, if it lights up (assuming the bulbs are good, no one ever changes them), then the problem is most likely in the turn signal switch, hope this helps!

No brake lights. All bulbs & fuses & wiring fine.

I suggest check the brale light switch, generaly is located in backside of the brake pedal; could need adjust or loss wires.

SHIFTER STUCKED IN PARKING IN MY 1996 MERCURY TRACER

Hello, The problem is the Brale pedal lever under the dash. You will probably notice that when you hit your brake pedal the stop lights will not come on. The brake pedal has a switch on it to detect that the brakes are on before you can shift out of park.

The switch under the dash can get hit by feet and either dislodged or broken. When you work on this switch, sometimes called an Interlock switch, when you get your brakes lights to work everything else should start working properly for you. This is a common problem on many of the Ford products.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

1997 ford truck cannot get it out of park. Replaced brake light switch assembly.

The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator (3Z719) mounted at the base of the steering column tube (3514). If the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is continually on unless the brake pedal is depressed. The shift lock actuator is the logical culprit. Check to see if it's getting voltage when the brake pedal is depressed. If yes: the unit is either faulty, weak or stuck. I can provide wire numbers and colors if necessary. I may need the engine size and Trans. code found on drivers door sticker. Good luck! Aoogha
