Retrace your steps to ensure that the filter is installed correctly. ATF+4 is the correct fluid. And it's not likely that the transmission "suddenly" developed problems. It's more likely that the filter and etc was improperly reinstalled. Sounds to me that the transmission filter is not making a good seal to the valve body. Sucking air makes strange things happen.
It only takes senthetic atf+4 sound like the clutches are slippind

If your car calls for ATF 4 transmission fluid, then yes. Check your owners manual for the correct fluid.
If you don't have a copy of your owners manual, you can register for free at the Toyota owners site and get a copy: http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/Owners/reg.do

You have to use ATF4 transmission fluid for the dodge caravan. If you changed the fluid and the filter, a quick relearn has to be performed by a technician. It requires a special computer device. Hope this helps.

The atf fluid level can only be checked when the car is running and at temperature (not cold) the level will be high when the car is not running
