There is a blend door that is know to give problems. Sometimes the blend door itself will break but there is also a blend door actuator that can fail. The blend door actuator is located behind the dash...kinda behind the temperature control knob and is a pretty easy fix if you're able to hang upside down under your dash for about 20 minutes. The actuator costs around $50.
I've never replaced the blend door itself, but have read up on it when I thought that might be the problem. Let's just say the part is cheaper but clear your weekend. I think step one of building a Taurus is the blend door....it's buried in there.
Hope this helps.

I am not familiar with that particular car, however, you may find the ducts are missing from the heater to the dash outlets. Look under the dash to see if the hoses are intact. Another possible problem is the solenoid that operates the air valves may be stuck, or do not have proper vacuum to operate. So many things it could be. The dash controls may not be operating correctly, a vacuum hose loose, blockage somewhere in the plenum or ducting. These are all things to check. I hope this is helpful to you, and will get you on the right track.

Check to see that the blend door linkage is hooked up. Doubtful it is heater core, as you had heat to one side and not the other. Check coolant control valve linkage, verify it is moving the coolant valve from off to on when you switch temperature from cold to hot. Verify you have coolant flow to the heater core by feeling the heater hoses where they enter the firewall. If all checks out well, then look at hvac controls individually.

the valve that control the heat is run by a cable from your heater assembly is located out under the hood, follow the two heater hoses to the fire wall, you will see one hose has a valve in it,one position lets water flow, the other doesn't.

1989 chevy silverado heater blowes cold air. both heater hose are hot. bargraph adjust from hot to cold.what next.

Feel the hoses going into the heater on the firewall. If one is hot and the other is cool, then the heater control valve is not working for whatever reason. Check the flow valve.

A/C and/or heater only blows very hot air

when the a/c is running you need to check if the lines coming out of the evaporator are cold. if they are cold the blend door operation could be an issuse. if they aren't cold the a/c is not working and you have to start diagnosing that.

Car heating is broke

the heater switch on the dash activates a valve allowing hot water into the heat exchanger under the dash. I think the valve is not opening so the heat exchanger stays cold. The linkage could be faulty or the switch could be faulty.
