The light came on; and 2 days later it went off. Coincidentally,we just filled and tapped off the gas tank, and when we parked the car in the garage we could smell gasoline in the garage, until the next day.

Check your gas cap. if it is loose, tighten it until it clicks. It is vented, and if the vent is plugged then the computer will throw a code. Check you local auto parts store for a replacement cap - if it is cheap enough, replace the cap. It will usually take a day or two to have that light go off.
If the code has been a misfire in the same cylinder every time, the problem is very likely the ignition coil for that cylinder. When the ignition coil first starts to go, the malfunctions will be sporadic and therefore difficult to troubleshoot. The ignition coil can be tested for resistance on both primary and secondary windings in the coil to prove it is failing.
Hi it sounds like you have picked up some dirty fuel, what you need to do now is go to your nearest garage or car spares shop and buy some decent fuel line cleaner, Red X is a good brand to buy, make sure you buy correct type for your engine ie petrol or diesel the follow instructions on the back of the bottle
how ever. it will say pour this into a full tank of fuel, dont do this pour it into half a tank of fuel doing this makes it work a lot quicker and cleans a lot better once you have poured it in it will take about an hour to clean all the fuel lines and injectors and doing this should turn the warning light off. you could also get the fuel filter changed just to make sure it is not blocked in any way.
the fuel line cleaner will clean the whole fuel line and all the injectors it will make your car run perfect and it increases mpg, its a good idea to use this product every couple of months on vehicles of your age as it keeps them running properly and cuts down and buying spare parts such as injectors due to them being blocked.
have a go with the product and if you have any problems after just give me a shout back ok.

there is a code 51 first of all, try putting octane boost in the tank, there has been several completes all across the country of watered gas, i have a 96 and a 95 neon and within days of filling both up the code 51 came up. the boost helped 1 and the MAP sensor had to be replaced on the 96. hope this helps
The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.
First place to check is the battery. Old ones can push your lights , radio, etc, but the starter is the real load. . Can verify this by using jumper cables to a running vehicle and watch your machine fire right up! The reason mornings are the worst, is the battery has had the most time to discharge, and it is probably cooler outside.
