hi. the most likely cause is low gas in the air con system . most cars have a pressure switch that detects low gas level and will prevent the clutch enganing to prevent damage.
the first thing to do is to top up the gas in the air con system. i would recommend getting this done properly as they will ensure that the correct amount of freon is in the system, but you can top it up yourself using cans of freon from a motor shop.
Check the magnetic clutch is engaged on front of a/c pump, have the motor running, a/c on and fan on high, if the centre hub is static the pump in not switched on, this can happen when the gas pressure gets low.
