Irratic rpm while driving 98 durango


Hi, Could you please provide more specific information like what RPM does this start and when it ends. Have you done a tune up. Plugs, wires, PCV valve, air filter, cap and rotor if equipped, oil change, trans filter and fluid and should be done every 30k miles and fuel filter... you have check engine light? if so, what are the codes. Would sound like a MAF/MAP issue maybe vacuum but doubt it....could be lack of fuel pressure, could be throttle position sensor, Idle air control valve, jesus the list goes on...

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs,wires,cap, rotor,air filter,and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.


I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

What is needed for a tune up?


Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. For a tune up, you would need to change spark plugs, coils, distributor cap, coil pack, and wires. You would change the air filter and the fuel filter also. Change your pcv valve as well. You can also change all your fluids and filters, such as oil, coolant fluid, and transmission fluid.

1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up performed Changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor wheel along with all spark plug wires, changed fuel filter, air filter, spent $150 on fuel injector...


Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

check for vacuum leaks, check distributor cap and rotor button, clean or replace as necessary. Use quality injector cleaner.
